5.0 out of 5 stars As usual A R Rahman delivers!
For people who are into contemporary Indian music, Rahman is peerless, he is head and shoulders above....this album just proves that point, "revival of vande mataram", and "Only You" are songs that touch your heart....i would recommend this album to anybody interested in indian music, this is actually a collection of patriotic songs focused on...

1.0 out of 5 stars A computer would better replace Rahman --
ARRahman simply killed a very good theme with bad music. From time in and timeout I have been hearing the stereotypically SAME music from this so called Music Maestro. All he does is mixes ready-made cumputer generated sound frequencies (I won't call it music) at random and calls it a song! This is ridiculous. Sorry, call me old-fashioned, but I know to differentiate...

5.0 out of 5 stars As usual A R Rahman delivers!, January 7, 2000

Simply one of his more mature performances. This is an absolutely stunning album. Rahman has Always been innovative and never fails to impress! He is, in the true sense, a Genius.

5.0 out of 5 stars Probably the best Indian "Pop" album yet...., June 14, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Vande Mataram (Audio CD)
The really good thing about this album is that there is conscious attempt from Rahman to take a route very uncommon in traditional Indian Pop music(or for that matter any kind of Pop music)--that of a spiritualism and soulfulness. It's quite funny when you think of it--there isn't even one love song in the whole "pop" album. There is patriotism, religion, a call for peace, anger, hope, intensity, calmness ....everything but your regular pop love song. And though all songs are in Hindi(well actually there is some Sanskrit, Tamil and some English too..), this album should also appeal to International music fans as it has very instrumental feel throughout the whole album. And by instruments I don't just meant the traditional Indian Tabla, or Sitar or anthing else inherently Indian...there is a good mixture of Western Instruments as well...

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Amazing, November 25, 1999
This review is from: Vande Mataram (Audio CD)
This guy is amazing. The blend of eastern and western music is just sheer pleasure. Its pure ecstacy. I look forward to his other works. Please if you can get more of his works, I will be very happy to buy those. He surely would go down in history of music as a legend.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Intricate fusion of indian and western music, March 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Vande Mataram (Audio CD)
Ever since Rahman stepped in to the music world he has been devastating previously established box office records. The moment this music whiz-kid stepped out of the film world and created this marvellous album in devotion to his mother land he has given the entire nation a reason to unite and rejoice at what they have accomplished in the last fifty years. It is a terrific album which one can listen to time and again. It was very sad that the demise of the late Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan came just before the release of the album. The Gurus of Peace and Taubba Taubba enrich the album with its ravishing musical excellence. Maa Tujhe Salaam and Thai Mannai Vanakam are simply superb. Words do not exist to praise the excellence of Rahman's musical ability.

As usual with AR Rahman's tunes at first u don't like it because it in NOTHING like what u hear everyday. But if u listen to it again, it gets a little bit better, if u listen to it again, it gets even better and there's not end to this cycle. This guy is just amazingly superb. I feel very lucky that i can understand and get to hear him and the Late Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan sing together. Great Work.

This album contains some of ARR's best musical pieces. Even if you are'nt indian I will recommed this album.Because it is just very inspiring music. ARR has maintained a perfect balance between western and eastern music while combining them together. My favorites are Vandemataram and Gurus of peace.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best Indian CDs to come out, June 13, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Vande Mataram (Audio CD)
The music on this CD is excellent, and it is the last recording of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan before he passed away. One of the interesting parts is Rahman's ability to intertwine Western and Eastern music for a truly unique sound.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth a Listen, May 8, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Vande Mataram (Audio CD)
Ar Rahman's CD, Vande Mataram, starts off really well, but as the CD progresses, it becomes a little disjointed. It would have been better had the tracks been put in another order. However, I like this CD and like the fact that there are a whole mix of Indian et al. (including the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan) and "Western" musicians which gives "VM" a unique sound. I was very touched by his thank-you's- he seems like a very nice person! I look forward to following AR's career.
