In these final episodes, misunderstandings lead the female crew of the pirate ship Nirvana to jail the three male refugees. Hibiki flees in his mecha suit and encounters a fleet where men and women work comfortably together. He joins them in a fight against the aliens--really Earthlings--who "harvest" people from other planets for their body parts. After seeing his new friends killed in battle, Hibiki returns to the Nirvana--whose location has been sold to the Harvesters by the venal Rabat. Naturally, the ensuing conflict requires everyone to work together to defeat the common enemy, but the series ends on a semi-cliffhanger that suggests a sequel was planned. The simultaneous attraction and misunderstanding between the sexes that forms the theme of this series offers rich material, but the filmmakers fritter it away on silly subplots. I won't spoil much for you, but this DVD is awesome. The enemy is not who you might expect, in fact, I can pretty much guarantee it. The emotions of the males and females reach an all time high as the women finally lose their cool with the 'insufferable' men. Hibiki is without a doubt one of the better lead characters in a while. Now I just have to wait until Second Stage is out!

This last DVD has a lot more action than the previous discs. As the series goes on there are more and more questions being brought up about the universe in which all this is taking place, which I think is a pretty good combination of great fun with some very good story elements. Hibiki is growing up, Dita is maturing (a bit anyway). I would give this DVD 5 stars if it weren't for the fact that although there are good plot twists, they don't really have any effect on the current situation aboard the Nirvana, nor are any questions answered, just more brought up.
! This is the last DVD of the first season! It took me a bit of research to figure it out, but this is a sort of "season finale". Season two is Vandread: Second Stage.

As always the DVD itself is in a cool metallic cover and has the now standard extras, non credit openings and art. This DVD also has poster style pictures of the mecha and characters, which I thought was really cool. The ending song is really catchy by the way, and I would totally recommend the audio CDs released. The special effects in this disc continue to please the eyes. CG battle scenes are fun to watch. This was a pretty fun first series, and I can tell you that after seeing the next few episodes of Second Stage, my interest is even more piqued for the entire story!

WARNING = Hastings will cancel your order and not tell you. This leaves you hanging wondering what happened with your order. You must call them to find out what happened and they are very snotty on the phone. I've bought tons from them via Amazon and directly but will never do so again. Be warned, they may cancel your order and not inform you! Very bad company and horrible customer service. If you really want your item buy it elsewhere, save yourself the trouble. I now have to rush out and buy my items elsewhere just days from Christmas. A real pain in the backside. You've been warned.
