5.0 out of 5 stars Whoa....coolness!
I love this series! The art is beautiful, the space battles are done in awesome computer animation, and the plot, while not original, is an excellent twist on an old topic. The characters are so cool, and one of them just got MUCH cooler!

WARNING = Hastings will cancel your order and not tell you. This leaves you hanging wondering what happened with your order. You must call them to find out what happened and they are very snotty on the phone. I've bought tons from them via Amazon and directly but will never do so again. Be warned, they may cancel your order and not inform you! Very bad company and...

I love this series! The art is beautiful, the space battles are done in awesome computer animation, and the plot, while not original, is an excellent twist on an old topic. The characters are so cool, and one of them just got MUCH cooler!

Buzam Calessa, called BC, is the second in command on the ship. She is a no-nonsense woman who takes her job very seriously. It's obvious that she has not gotten the chance to cut loose much, as evidenced by the Christmas party and a few other instances. But we have never gotten the chance to see her in any other position but directing the others. That changes in this volume. We get to see BC using her favorite weapon--a BULLWHIP. And let me tell you, she kicks major ass! ^_~

I love watching this volume just to see BC using that whip against Liz's weapons! Go BC!

5.0 out of 5 stars Vandread Second Stage picks up from the first series, August 8, 2002
By A Customer
Is it true, can Men and Women really get along?

This series picks right up from the previous one. About half home, the Nirvana pick up a new girl, Misty enters in and immeditatly falls for Hibiki. Now Hibiki not only has Dita but Misty fighting for his affection. And a new crew member is born getting even Meia to show her soft side.

New weapons, vandread upgrades along with plenty of character backgrounds being revealed makes the final episode worth watching. You must pick up this series if you have not yet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good anime!, August 5, 2002
By
This review is from: Vandread - Second Stage - Survival (Vol. 1) (DVD)
This is a very good anime. I have watched all the episodes in Japanese with English subs and I liked them a lot. At first the story is a little slow, something happens on the ship and then there is a little story, then some bad guys come and they have to fight. Almost all the episodes up to 8 are like this. After 8 it becomes more exciting and there is better action.

One of the reasons I like this series is because it always has something funny in it that will make you laugh. Anyone who thinks that this series is just another Gundam Wing is wrong. This anime is much better than Gundam Wing. It does have robots fighting is space, but this anime has a much better story and all the characters don't act so strange.

The only thing I did not like about this anime is that it is only 13 episodes long. I really hope that they make a third stage.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome DVD+BoX, December 2, 2003
Man, I thought the first series started off well, but, I was mistaken! The second stage is awesome! Picks up where the first ended. And the box, man I am so glad it came with a box, the extra money was way worth it, trust me, collectors will enjoy it thoroughly. Pioneer seems to be on top of the world!

4.0 out of 5 stars Vandread, September 28, 2002

This review is from: Vandread - Second Stage - Survival (Vol. 1) (DVD)
The serise begins with a new girl named Misty who is found in a pod in space. When Hibiki wants to see what the crew is looking at he accidently falls in the pod. Not to spoil anything Misty develops alittle crush on Hibiki and trys Dita's tactics to get him to like her. But Hibiki turns her down for his feelions for Dita. Misty and Dita fight alot over Hibiki and a new Vandread is formed in the end. Episodes 1-8 are okay but 9-13 are the best and tell alot about Hibiki's past. Episode 7 is really Kawanii(Cute!).

5.0 out of 5 stars Overpriced, July 23, 2003
Not much I can say about Vandread that hasn't already been said, but don't buy this overpriced item. All it is, is one DVD, and a box for the other 7 DVDs. I thought this was Volumes 1-4 of first State and volume 1 of Second Stage.

Trust me, 10 extra dollars is not worth a box to hold DVDs you dont even own yet.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this series, but I felt I should warn you..., March 24, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Vandread - Second Stage - Survival (Vol. 1) (DVD)
If you watched the first season of Vandread, then you know that one of the women is pregnant. Well, in this dvd, she has the baby in a very funny, moving scene that had me and my best friend laughing (when we weren;t in shock). I mean, this is the ONLY anime I have ever heard of that would even think of approaching a subject like this, much less actually focus on it for an episode. They don't show anything...explicit, but there is also no denying what is going on.

So be warned...

5.0 out of 5 stars A good series without the confusion, April 17, 2003
By
Eric Matsui (Southern CA, US) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This series remains on my top 10 list of anime titles, and rightfully so.

Have you ever seen something like LAIN or EVA and you were just plain confused? I like them to an extent, but I believe if a series makes you think TOO much then it won't be as effective. This series deals with views of life and evolution, with action and comedy mixed in very effectively.

This series actually has something for every kind of anime fan, even for those who are first-time anime watchers. For the mech/robot action fans this will suit your taste quite well. Some of the best mechs I've seen have come from this series and are all 3-D CG. The Gundam series doesn't even hold a candle to it. For those looking for good stories and plot, every episode is an adventure in itself. You'll laugh, cry, get angry, all in this one series. And for those who would like to poke fun at gender differences, this will perhaps be to your liking as well.

Every so often an anime series comes to change the way you think about things, and this has been one of mine. It was worth every penny.

Speaking of which, I better have a rundown on the DVD contents. The menus are quite good - very imaginative and eye-appealing. Extras include testless openings and original TV spots and promotions (however unfortunately not translated for those who do not speak Japanese). Pioneer takes full advantage of DVD video as the video picture is almost flawless. The only thing that I would have to complain about is the choice of English voice casting, but that can be easily avoided by switching to subtitles and the Japanese track.

Strap yourselves in, Vandread's gonna take you for quite a ride!

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE this series!, August 2, 2002

This review is from: Vandread - Second Stage - Survival (Vol. 1) (DVD)
Vandread has got to be my favorite anime series of all time, and I have seen countless others. The story is fun, the characters are likable, and the animation is top-notch. The CG battles are absolutely jaw-dropping, and the character designs are great. I own all four DVDs of the first series, and have spent the last few months practically biting my nails in anticipation of this release. This is a great series, and I think that every sci-fi fan should give it a try.
