This tamper fits my Starbucks Barista's 53mm portofilter perfectly. Pretty much like it was machined specifically for my portofilter/basket. This tamper is heavier than my friend's Reg Barber (shockingly heavy actually), and in my opinion has nicer workmanship. For the price this HAS to be the best tamper on the market.

Great heft!,

This is a long awaited tamp for my espresso machine!! After working in the coffee industry I have missed having a great tamp for my at home use. Most stores have now moved to an entirely automated process and I have to say my preference is for the port-a-filter by far on my little "Barista" machine from Starbucks. (which has held up with everyday use since 2003!) But searching for the best scoop and the best tamp have been challenging to say the least. In the end this is the type of tamp I have loved working with in the coffee business when they did use a similar machine. It has a great balance, heft in your hand (great self defense if it came down to it in the kitchen), and a perfect fit (do measure the inside of your port-a-filter if you want to order one, nothing would be more frustrating than it not fitting your particular machine, try to get as close a measurement on the diameter of the inside of the screen so you get the perfect tamp, don't assume that all espresso machines are the same size, they have different sizes all varying by millimeters!).
Definitely the gift for the coffee lover who has an espresso machine. Vaneli's Solid Stainless Steel Tamper 53mm--2.09 inches (2 1/8") Starbucks Barista Home Espresso Machine - Stainless Steel

This is one of the best coffee tampers that is out there. I have had it for years and it works beautifully. It has a nice heft to it that makes tamping the espresso coffee easy. The tamper that came with my espresso coffee was a light plastic thingy that could not tamp the coffee well - this one does it with ease. Being made of stainless steel, you can toss it into the dishwasher or rinse it when you want. In my case very seldom as wiping it with a damp paper towel is all that you really need. If you need an espresso tamper, get this one - you won't be disappointed

Hunk of steel,

It is a hefty hunk of metal and does what it is supposed to do. The 53mm fits my Saeco perfectly.
Much cheaper than other solid metal tampers.

My friends returned from a trip to Italy raving about the coffee. They went out and bought a Saeco espresso machine and made me some espresso. I used to use a cheap Braun espresso maker and the difference was unbelievable! So I went and bought one myself. I went to my local Gourmet shop and purchased the best tamper they had to offer. An aluminum double sided model but neither side fit my pot, one side to big the other too small. I went online in search of a good one and discovered they come in different sizes. I measured my pot and found the Vaneli was the perfect size so I ordered it. When I got the package, the first thing I noticed was how heavy it was. Upon opening and inspecting it I found a well machined piece of stainless steel and it fit the Saeco pot as if made for it. The rounded top takes some getting used to but after a couple of tamps it felt just wright. I recommend this product highly!

This a great, solid tamper - weighty and easy on the hands. Can't imagine a better tamper.
