5 STARS!, April 30, 2005
Vanessa Paradis is known in France as "Lolita" and got her start at age 14 with the hit single "Joe Le Taxi". She is known in America as Mrs. Johnny Depp, and for once dating Lenny Kravitz. Vanessa is very good at using many different types of music, but she is still classified as a "pop" singer. But don't let this discourage you, because her music IS fun and easy to sing along to, but I defiantly would not call it "pop". I actually do not know what I would classify her music as, because we have no one even remotely like her here in the USA. All I can say is I have witnessed people of all different ages and backgrounds enjoy Vanessa's music.
Vanessa Paradis Au Zenith is my favorite CD of Vanessa's, as well as the most recent of her CDs. There are 19 songs on the CD, which was taped in France during one of her concerts, because 3 songs (I'm Waiting for the Man, Natural High, and Flagrant Delire) were cut out. I order to appreciate this CD, you have to know all the songs originally, so I would recommended you only buy this CD after you have listened to her other CDs: Vanessa Paradis, M & J, Variations Sur Le Meme T'Aime, Live, and Bliss. I love this CD because I feel this is where she takes all of her young, Pop-like songs and turns them into really great music. All of the beats and rhythms of her songs that we know and love are changed to make her sound like who she really is: an adult French pop icon. On this CD Vanessa's personality shines through. She energetically greets the audience after her opening of the song L'Eau et le Vin, and she laughs when the audience continues to sing after Dis-Lui Toi Que Je T'Aime. She also gets them to sing along after Dans mon Café, and makes them laugh while playing guitar for her final number. I also have the DVD of this concert (which is not available in the USA), so I know for a fact that Johnny Depp does not play guitar during the concert. However, there is a solo by a guitarist during Portant that came as a surprise to Vanessa. There are two songs (L'eau a la Bouche and Requim pour un Con) that are new and very short, but very enjoyable. The nineteen songs on this CD have obviously been chosen very carefully, they are all her most popular songs, and I think that no matter what your favorite song is now, you will big extremely pleased to hear it live. This CD is really great fun, and if you are a huge fan of Vanessa Paradis (like me) you will absolutely love this CD. And if you're not a huge fan yet, you will be after you hear her music:)

Very enjoyable., January 12, 2003
this was the first vanessa cd i actually spent my money on and bought. i wasn't disapointed. especially because of my love of johnny depp, i was very happy to hear that he played guitar on 2 songs on this album. i would have loved to attend this concert. the previous live album, though, i haven't bought it yet, i have the whole concert on tape, and it is excellent. both of her concerts are excellent!

but still servicable and worth the $ if you're a fan. (if you're just getting into paradis' music, start with the other, superior, older live album.)
