Surprised her videos made it on DVD.,
This review is from: Vanessa Williams - 20th Century Masters (DVD)
I bought this DVD only because this was all I could get from Vanessa Williams - her videos that is. I never suspected that any of these videos, especially 'The Right Stuff', would ever see the light of day in DVD format. However, I am glad these videos were released even if it represents a slight portion of all her music videos. I would like to see a full release of her music videos with the following that were cut from this DVD: "He's Got the Look", "Darlin, I", "The Comfort Zone", "Work to Do", "What Will I Tell My Heart", "Just for Tonight", "Love Is", "The Way That You Love", "What Child Is This", "Colors of the Wind", "Where Do We Go From Here", "Happiness", and "Open Your Eyes, You Can Fly".If you can cope with just the few videos on this DVD, as any fan of Vanessa Williams should, I suggest you purchase this DVD. There's some great stuff here that you should not miss.

This DVD is just incomplete,

The 20th Century Masters collection has now invaded the DVD scene! This collection is just too brief to show Vanessa musical career while under WIng Records then turned into Mercury Records. But the videos included in this set does show some of Williams most popular singles such as her first hit "The Right Stuff" and her international hit "Save The Best For Last." What I do not understand is why did Universal not at least include "Colors of the Wind" on the DVD?

A Good Start,

It is a great start. It is unfortunate that only a few of Vanessa's videos are on this collection and there are absolutely no interviews or BTS footage whatsoever! Vanessa is back on the music scene now so hopefully she will release a compilation that includes ALL of her videos and give her fans some rare live stuff too. I had the chance to see her in concert this past December and she is phenomenal on stage!! I took my teenage daughter along and she bacame an instant 'V' fan!!

Good Videos... but incomplete reflections,

For Universal, they've really been quite able to capitalize on the feeling of their 20th Century masters collection so much with the CD's, but now the feel of the DVD's are quite ironic on the downside. Considering, most of them do overlook great videos, and only offer the value within the acrtual bbudget price. That has happened with so many acts like Patti LaBelle, Styx, Olivia Newton-John, and the former Miss America, Vanessa Williams. Yet for Vanessa, her music has always find a way to bring beauty and elegance to the mainstream, but for a decent collection of her music videos, that just hasn't happened here.
20th Century Masters: Vanessa Williams is a DVD that only features five of her soulful music videos from her career, with a lot of beauty in her voice. The videos range mostly from her first 2 records, The Right Stuff and The Comfort Zone with videos for The Sweetest Days, the #1 ballad Save The Best For Last, Dreamin', and Runnin' Back To You. The videos are great and dynamic, but there are just too few tracks here as a far cry from the 20th Century Masters album. The DVD overshadows quite a lot of music videos includng the videos for Happiness, Colors Of The Wind, The Look from The Right Stuff, The Way That You Love, and other great songs. While Vanessa Williams fans might be a bit dissapointed in this DVD collection, it is a very decent music video collection but could've been improved quite a bit. This is a big problem for the 20th Century Masters DVD edition. Still, it is a good price for die hard Vanessa Williams fans but others may just want to buy the CD instead of the DVD. This one might want to be saved for last, until a better collection of her videos comes out. Price: C+ Mastering: B Videos: C- Overall: C 1/2-

Good Compilation But Incomplete,
By A Customer
This review is from: Vanessa Williams - 20th Century Masters (DVD)
Some really nice videos here, but very incomplete. Noticebly missing are videos for "The Comfort Zone", "He's Got The Look", "Darlin I", "Happiness" and "What Do I Tell My Heart". Don't pay a lot of money for this. It's worth a few dollars. But, it is nice to have these classic videos like "The Right Stuff" , "Running Back To You" and "Dreamin" on DVD.

What is the point in releasing this collection without the videos for "Darlin' I", "Where do we go from here", "Just for Tonight", "Colors of the Wind", "The Comfort Zone"? What a cheap way to capitalize with this bargain basement collection of one of our most gorgeous, elegant and talented artists.

Great variety of Vanessa's best. She displayed her dancing skills in these videos, along with her gorgeous voice.

I've recently purchased this dvd. It's really nice to go back in time and remember what I was doing when I first heard the "Right Stuff" by Vanessa Williams. Althou there's only 5 of her videos, wishing to see more from a Great Diva in the future!

This is one of a series of no-frills five-clip video collections issued as 20th Century Masters DVDs by Universal. Accordingly, you get what you paid for, nothing more (e.g., there is a menu on the DVD but no surround sound). On this DVD what you get are five complete clips of Vanessa Williams' most popular hits from 1988 - 1994. Tracks include "The Right Stuff," "Dreamin'," "Save The Best For Last," "Running Back To You," and "The Sweetest Days." Collectors will be disappointed and left hoping that a "Complete Videos" collection is in the works. However, this is a good bargain if you want a concise, highlights-only overview of her career, available for about the cost of a CD-single. Vanessa's career has combined music, dancing, and acting with mostly successful results ala Jennifer Lopez a generation later. The clips here fall into basically two categories: 1) dance tracks allowing Vanessa to show off her training as a dancer that would later be showcased in the film DANCE WITH ME ("The Right Stuff" seems a bit derivative of Janet Jackson's early videos, while "Running..." is more original); and 2) ballads, with the artist singing and looking sharp in predictable albeit attractive settings. The video content perhaps doesn't jump out at the viewer as Lopez' clips often do. However, Vanessa scores points by projecting a relatively mature image that is nonetheless stylish and contemporary, thankfully not dumbing-down her talents to fit in with the more notorious aspects of popular culture (and an ironic twist for a career that began with the Miss America scandal).
