More About the Author

Mark J.T. Griffin (comes from lots of different places but this time around) was born in March 1958 in Wolverhampton.

He lives in Warwickshire with his wife Ingrid, daughters Dani & Steph, Sam and Lily the Labradors and cats Bramble & Bracken.

He divides his spare time between writing, music, drama, theatre and re-enacting Civil War battles. Since the mid-eighties he has written numerous articles and short stories on subjects ranging from clocks to computers to Custer.

In 1994 he wrote the biography, Vangelis: The Unknown Man and in 1997 the new age adventure novel Going Home. This was following in 2006 by the novel Richard of Eastwell based on his love of history and theatre. The Cathar Prophecy, a 13th century adventure based on the events in 1243 in Montesegur, was his third novel.

In 2009 he published a collection of short stories, fairytales (with the emphasis on Grimm) and poetry call Fairytales, Poems and Prophecies.

He is now completing the novel Angel House, a comedic detective work called Milton Keanes Investigates and a number of screenplays including A Swift Rush, the story of TE Lawrence's mysterious death.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent In-Depth Volume of Vangelis. A must for fans..., December 4, 1998

This review is from: Vangelis: the Unknown Man (Paperback)
The book follows Vangelis' carrer and work and focusses on his work rather than his life. The author has pulled together very detailed information about his composing technique. An excellent read...

3.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive overview of Vangelis' musical output, December 5, 1999
By
This review is from: Vangelis: the Unknown Man (Paperback)
This book fills an information void regarding one of the most impressive musicians living today. Griffin deserves praise for the long hours he obviously spent doing research and putting this work together, and to his credit he gives all of us information-starved fans plenty to digest. I especially appreciated how the author chose to incorporate quotes from all-too-sporadic Vangelis interviews. This allows readers the opportunity to "get at" the underlying philosophy and artistry that informs such a magnificent composer.

I only wish this book were better written. One minor complaint is that Griffin repeats the same information numerous times throughout the book. More serious are the too-numerous spelling mistakes, as well as poorly punctuated and non-grammatical sentences. I don't feel that I'm being overly picky in pointing these things out, as it would seem that more care could have been taken in proofreading and editing a work detailing a subject about whom the author is obviously passionate. In his defense, though, I can certainly praise Mark Griffin for bringing this work to the public. It is quite detailed; thus, I learned a great deal about a man whose music has inspired me for a number of years. In closing, I would be more than happy to offer my services at any time free of charge should he desire a dedicated proofreader for the next edition.

Very detailed coverage of a seminal composer's life with a great discography. I would like to see more musicological analysis in a future edition...and some spell checking!
