I purchased these binoculars in preparation for a course in birdwatching that I am taking from the NYC Audubon Society. Now that I have used them a few times, including on a day-long birding trip to a seaside wildlife refuge, I can report that they are well worth the price. The weather was cloudy and rainy on my trip, yet the glasses never fogged up. And since they are also waterproof, I didn't worry overmuch about a few raindrops falling on them as we tramped around in the drizzle.

But their real value is that they are easy to use and deliver a bright, clear image, even on a gray day. And they are not too heavy. Plus they come with a sturdy, protective case and a comfortable neck strap.

I am amazed at how crisp everything looks through these glasses! They are 8x, which brings birds (and other things) up close while still giving me a wide enough field of view so that I can locate the bird in the first place.

I didn't know much about binoculars when I set out to buy a pair, so the reviews here on amazon helped me a lot. Thanks to all of you who wrote such thorough and informative reviews about these glasses, as well as several other brands that are popular. I have made sure to give each of you a helpful vote.

These are very nice for the $$. Build is solid (they are a bit heavy though) and all moving parts are silky smooth. I really like the rapid focusing that these have. But no issue in doing the fine focusing either. There is just the slightest distortion on the edge of the viewing picture but then these aren't $1000 binoculars. And really, how much do you look at the very edges? The center pic is very bright and in focus.

The product was shipped quite securely and the padded neck strap is a nice touch. I highly recommend this product. If you have $1000+ you might go with the Swarovski or Zeiss, but if your budget is more like mine, these binoculars are probably the best for what you pay.

I did a bunch of research on line to find out what was available for a reasonable price and this pair of binoculars got good reviews for both convenience and the quality of optics. I wear glasses for astigmatism and therefore really need binoculars that can accommodate these and still have a full image. I've been delighted with the glasses. Took them to Alaska on a hiking trip and found they were really convenient stuffed in a backpack, and not heavy at all. Waterproof too as it rained off and on. The magnification is perfect for bird and animal watching and holding a steady view for looking at objects at the limit of visibility. The optics are so much better than cheaper binoculars that I'll never go back to using the old pairs. Focus adjustment is very smooth and quick but with enough tension in the mechanism that there's no drift. It's really easy to share with someone who doesn't use glasses as a quick twist of the eye-cups moves them to the correct position. Overall, they seem really suitable for carrying on a hike (as opposed to someone who is a dedicated birder who stays in one spot.

The binoculars are extremely light but have a very solid feel. They are easy to focus, have excellent angle and field of view, and provide a very clear optical image. I bought this model for my wife because of the weight and size factor, then not so handily, left them at our home in Alaska when I went south for Christmas to our home in Texas. I then bought a model from Eagle Optics for considerably more money to give my wife. The Vanguard binoculars appear to be every bit as good as the model from Eagle Optics and have the advantage of being much smaller and lighter. The only discernible difference for our "tired" eyes is the eyecup setting. The Eagle Optics eyecups actually have four or five "click" settings, so it is easy to get both eyecups the same distance from the eye. The Vanguard model doesn't have these "notches", for lack of a better term, so getting the eyecups even is somewhat more complicated. Considering this a very minor issue, I would recommend the Vanguard model for the weight, size and price factors.

These were purchased as a gift for my fiance who is an avid bird watcher. I did a lot of research and on paper, these compare favorably to much more expensive models. I am very picky about quality and was concerned because these were so much more affordable than the competition that they would feel cheap and not perform as well as their specification sheet suggests. From the moment I took them out of the box I started to see that these concerns were not justified.

They look great, and feel great in the hand. They work well in low light and the image they present looks 3D. When it comes time to purchase a set of field glasses for myself (hunting), I will buy Vanguard. The only minor criticism I have is that they only come with one strap (you have to remove it from case and put on glasses). We will order another strap and still have saved hundreds so no big deal.

PS - she loves them as well ;-)

Bought these before Christmas on a lightning deal. They cost $149.99 and came with a $50 rebate. Now as of today 1/28/14, I have not received my rebate. We shall see on that. Otherwise these are great spare binocs. I do a lot of birding and while these were fairly inexpensive compared to "Birding Glasses" they work well for my needs. Do not have to worry about dropping a $1,000 dollar pair of binoculars. I can put in my backpack/camera bag. So, for kick around glasses, they are great.
The one negative thing I can say is the neck strap configuration. Who is going to spend the time unsnapping the neck strap from the case and putting it on the binocs? A real PITA. I just leave mine out of the case and leave the neck strap on the binocs.
