4.0 out of 5 stars Great Value, August 17, 2004

This is a very nice and very adaptable case for still and video cameras as well as other electronic equipment. It is not to be mistaken for the extremely rugged aluminum cases that retail for several hundred dollars, but it wasn't designed to compete in that market. Rather, this is a relatively low priced case that will give good service when handled with reasonable care. The case comes with both diced foam (easily separated by hand, no knives or scissors required) as well as adjustable dividers; you can even use both, have a portion of the case diced foam and a portion partioned with the dividers. I have six of these cases and keep my Hasselblads and Nikons in them. Again, they are not exceptionally rugged, so I wouldn't check them on an airline flight, but for storage in the home or studio and for transport by car they are a great value.

5.0 out of 5 stars bigger than i expected, July 25, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Vanguard VGP-13 Mid-Size Photo/Video Hard Case (Electronics)
i got this bad boy for my growing collection of camera gear, but you could fit a camcorder in there too, or a bunch of random electronic gear. i had previously ordered another vanguard case from amazon, which is great too but a wee bit small, and though this one was either less expensive or around the same price, it appears to be the next size up from my other case. not sure how that works, but it's definitely worth the money. i can easily fit six lenses w/ reversed hoods, a dslr body, and a flash. the battery grip needs to be disengaged to fit too, but not such a big deal because if i'm gonna put my camera in the vanguard and not the lowepro slingshot (where it's ready at a moments notice), i probably wont need the battery grip for a while.

the case is more impressive in the larger size but not overwhelming in terms of bulk-- i'm sure there are bigger models. it's hard to tell from the pic on amazon, but this is a medium-to-large sized case. it looks like it was made with a combination of abs plastic with brushed aluminum appointments. the handle is made out of a grippy synthetic material. it has two clasp-locks and a keyed lock. the inside comes with both rubber dividers and pick and pluck foam. that's cool because you can use a combination of the two. the dividers can be reconfigured; with the foam you can dial in a snug fit for your gear. there's also a shoulder strap which you probably wont use much, since this is a stay at home case. well, you could take it as a carry-on, but its squarish and uncomfortable to carry by anything but the handle. it also has a one-year limited warranty. it should stand up to moderate abuse. 5 stars because there's no real flaws. it's not waterproof or sealed with an O-ring but, but that'd be asking for a lot at this price. it definitely has that "pro gear" look. you could definitely pay more for a lesser case. bottom line: solid, relatively inexpensive protection for your expensive goodies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great case and a awesome value!, August 7, 2008
This review is from: Vanguard VGP-13 Mid-Size Photo/Video Hard Case (Electronics)
The case is very nice, it looks like it is an expensive one. Far from it, it is an awsome value. I could fit a canon D40, 2 mid range zoom lenses, 2 macro lenses, 4 camera batteries, 2 CF cards, 1 battery charger, 24 AA batteries, 1 580EXII flash, 1 battery grip, 3 lens hoods, 1 remote shutter contol, and a lens cleaning kit. And it does not look crowded! I couln't ask for more. I Highly recomend it.

This review is from: Vanguard VGP-13 Mid-Size Photo/Video Hard Case (Electronics)
I bought this case to store the camera equipment which I've accumulated over the years. As I initiated my search for a case, I decided that the case would be used mainly at home since I've got camera bags to carry "stuff" when I travel. I also felt that it was not necessary to have the features of the more expensive cases such as being waterproof or resistant to the perils airline baggage handling.

I decided to buy this case based on some of the reviews posted on Amazon. I knew the case would not have the capacity to store all of my equipment; however, I felt it was the best size from the standpoint of fitting into the closet where it would sit and ease of lifting. Other cases might have been better to keep all of my equipment in a single "box" but such a case would have been so big as to be unwieldy and it seemed the cost was proportionately higher than this mid-sized Vanguard.

I was very pleased when I received the case. In fact, upon receiving it and confirming that it would not store all of my equipment, I ordered a second. The case has a nice (faux) carbon fiber finish to it with metal trim and locks. It can easily store five to six lenses - depending on their size. Additionally, with the "plick and pluck" foam in the case, compartmentalization of the interior is a snap.

When considering the quality and the price, I am very pleased with the product and would - without hesitation - order a third if such were ever needed. For prospective buyers, keep in mind that this is a basic case to "store your stuff" or to carry equipment in the trunk of your car. It is not the case to send through as checked luggage or to lug through the jungle on a photo safari. There are other, more expensive products specifically-suited for these purposes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great case at a fair price, October 13, 2008

This review is from: Vanguard VGP-13 Mid-Size Photo/Video Hard Case (Electronics)
I've had this case for over 3 years now and it has been great. I fit my Digital Rebel, 5 lens, 2 extra batteries, 2 chargers, a promaster 7500 flash and a lightmeter in here. It was a trick figuring out all the foam for that task but it works fantastic. I'm on my second set of foam due to the fact I changed my kit a little bit so I ordered brand new foam from Vanguard. It costs $7.50 + $5.00 s/h. This case really is quite durable. Just yesterday I set it up on end and stood on it to climb up on a rooftop and it held my near 190lbs just fine. No complaints here. This case was a throw-in on a high end Marantz digital recorder my wife purchased. She didn't need the case so I used it for my camera kit.

The case was far more impressive than I imagined at this price point.

My base kit includes a Canon 40D with 28-135mm kit lens, and 50mm prime, along with chargers etc., I still have room for my Contax 139, Ziess 50mm prime and Tamron 80-210mm Zoom. Possibly even one more if I push it.

The puck foam was easy to work with. My only complaint is that the deviders don't fit in square, but for me this was a minor issue.

I bought this case for telescope eye pieces and other small accessories. It has worked out perfectly. It is well made and very easy to custom fit to accessories. I did learn that it is better to leave all the foam in Place when fitting it to most accessories. Once you have seperated it, just push the item into it and let the foam compress under the item. Thos works very well. I plan to buy another one when I out grow the one I have. I recommend this case.

I chose this mode of storage for my kit over a bag for two simple reasons.

1. I'm a neat freak
2. Protection

This handles both as storing your gear has never looked so clean and organized and for $40, the protection can't be beat.

Rugged construction (as long as you don't throw it around). Easy to customize. Great buy.

It's so hard to tell the size of the Vanguard cases here on amazon. This case is a good size. It's roughly the height and width of an average briefcase and about twice the depth. I was able to fit a Sony HVC-A1U with the microphone attached, a Nikon D80 and a separate 70-300mm lens. I still have enough room for a few cables and both chargers and a couple spare batteries.

As far as quality, you can't beat the construction at this price. It's such a good deal I'm buying more for my relatives.

4.0 out of 5 stars great for headphones and amplifiers, November 7, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Vanguard VGP-13 Mid-Size Photo/Video Hard Case (Electronics)
used it to store my Audio Technica w1000x headphone, Ipod Classic, and a portable amplifier(iBasso D4). it still has enough space to store a full size desk amplifier or another full size headphone(53mm driver headphone). I'm planning to get a Yamamoto HA-02 to fill the void XD.

P.S. The case is not $300 case.. so don't expect it to stand a fall of 10 feet or come out in one piece from check-in on any airplane flight.
