I wanted very much to OWN the Vanilla Sky soundtrack directly after seeing the film. But after seeing that it contains only 17 of the 41 tempting songs placed throughout the movie, I am left disappointed. WHERE IS THE REST OF THIS SOUNDTRACK!? I don't want to buy the 17 songs and lust after the 21 left out of the mix. I want ALL of the songs. I'm thinking this situation needs to be remedied. All in favor of a sequel to this soundtrack...

The song at the end of the movie when Tom Cruise leaps from the roof is Njosnavelin (The Nothing Song) by Sigur Ros. At the time the movie and soundtrack were released the only version available was a live "bootleg" the band allowed Cameron Crowe to use. The song has now been recorded in the studio and is available on Sigur Ros's "()" album. None of the tracks have names, but it is the fourth song. The sound/ambience are extremely close to the version in the movie.

I know from reading the reviews that a lot of people were looking for this song. Now it's officially available.

I'm not sure where the version in the movie came from.....perhaps from the HBO "Reverb" special?

(2 1/2 stars) The thing I hate the most about soundtracks, is the soundtracks that don't have all the songs used in the movie. And this has everyone wondering what this and that song was and where they can buy it since it's not on the soundtrack. This process really sucks. As far as the Vanilla Sky Soundtrack goes it has some good songs on it, but it contains less than half of the songs in the movie.

I suggest that you listen to clips of all the songs on this album and make sure that the songs you want and like from the movie are on it BEFORE you buy it.

There is no doubt that Cameron Crowe is a cinematic genius and when he collaborates with his wife Nancy Wilson (son of Beach Boys Genius Brian Wilson) (*perhaps you'll notice a Beach Boys song in each of Crowe's films - including this one) the music has a way of bringing Crowe's films to an even higher level. This has been true for all of Crowe's films including "Almost Famous", "Jerry Maguire", "Singles", and "Say Anything." These were all very well known for their music.

This soundtrack is nothing different. The range from solemn and melancholy to hyper and excited is a wonderful ride. The lesser known tracks of popular performers is always a wonderful Cameron Crowe-like treat for his audiences. (See Almost Famous.)

The only complaint I have of the soundtrack is the same as every one else's: The rest of the music from the movie is not on the disc. I have spent four days doing research to find the remaining tracks. There were a total of 41 music tracks credited at the end of the film. 17 are on the CD. I have found the remaining songs and finally put them all together on my computer. What a project!

Kudos to Crowe and Wilson for another job well done. Just wish the rest of the music had been on the CD. Save us some researching work.

Song in elevator is "Doot-Doot" by Freur. I remember this song from the 80's. Its one of my favorites. However, it is not on the VS soundtrack.

This movie has a special meaning to me personally. You MUST see it at least 5 times to pick up the little clues and subtle hints through out the movie. The soundtrack fits perfectly!

While it is certainly not possible to include all of the songs from the movie on a single disc (there are over 50), there are so many moving musical pieces that should have made it onto this CD.

Nancy Wilson's "Garage Beat" "Plate Removal", "Kick me when I'm down", etc.: All of her original pieces should have been included, as they were written for the film and tie so much of it together.

"Ágætis Byrjun" by Sigur Rós: The background music when David describes his comeback after his accident. ("People *will* read again!")

"Indra" by Theivery Corporation: The Trance music playing when David enters the club with his latex mask. His movement and personality change noticably when he is wearing it.

"The Healing Room" by Sinéad O'Connor: "Lucid Dream" presentation.

"To Kill a Mockingbird" by Elmer Bernstien: Edmund Ventura describes the "Iconography" of David's youth.

"njósnavélin (the nothing song)" by Sigur Rós: The haunting music in the final scene with David and Sophia ("I'll find you again")

I can only give this CD three stars due to what was left out. Otherwise it would have been a perfect five.

For people not familiar with the types of music played in this film, I am sure this is a great primer...but for those of us who are fans of Sigur Ros, Radiohead, Underworld, etc. etc. this CD leaves a whole lot to be desired. This was a great film and this is a half-effort at a soundtrack to encapsulate that film. I know that there is no way to have included all the songs in the film (there were so many brilliantly spliced in), but this effort is still way below par. Maybe if it was stretched out to two CDs could it be saved, but sadly it is not. The song selection virtually ends at the beginning of the nightclub scene which, as viewers of the film will realize, leaves a whole heck of a lot out. What guiles me the most is the omission of the unreleased Sigur Ros song...luckily having seen them live I have been able to replay it in my head enough to at least enjoy it on one level, but it should have been included here. Overall, a great film and a great soundtrack in the film, but a poor half finished soundtrack as a CD...again, if this music is new to you then by all means get it...for those of you looking to fill out an already rich library, stay away.
