A Good Read, June 30, 2002
This review is from: Vanished (Time Police) (Paperback)
I liked this book (series). It may not have been a literary masterpiece, but it was not boring. It was basically an action / adventure story, but Norwood did an excellent job of keeping the story moving without rushing. It has been at least 10 years since I read the three books in this series, but I can still remember the vivid imagery Norwood used to describe the time travel 'feel'. Unfortunately, Lynx went out of business before the series concluded, and I have been unable to find anything from Warren Norwood since.

Decent writing, but somewhat boring, August 30, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Vanished (Time Police) (Paperback)
"Vanished," the first volume of Warren Norwood's "Time Police" series, is a competently-written time-travel-conspiracy SF story that is, nonetheless, somewhat boring. The plot is nothing terribly new--Jackson Dubcheck, the protagonist, is the stereotypical Innocent Bystander Who Discovers The Terrible Secret And Is Now Running For His Life To Set Things Right--and is, in fact, rather convoluted and hard to follow (as are most time-travel stories; that's the nature of the beast).
The main redeeming feature of "Vanished," at least for southwest Missourians such as myself, is that the book is set in, and was obviously written by a native of, Springfield, Missouri, and some of the settings (the Landers Theatre on Park Central Square) and in-jokes (Saint John Q's Hospital, cashew cat) are things that only a Springfieldian can fully appreciate. However, these are things that the >99.99% of the people likely to read this book who have never been to Springfield are unlikely to understand.
It entertained me enough to rate three stars, but for non-Missourians, it might merely rate a 2. It's not a bad read, but it's not fantastic either.
