About the Author

John Ravenal is currently Curator of Art After 1900 at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond. Ravenal was Associate Curator of 20th-Century Art at the Philadelphia Museum of Art from 1997-98 and Assistant Curator of 20th-Century Art from 1991-97. In addition to Vanitas: Meditations on Life and Death in Contemporary Art, he has authored Twenty Philadelphia Artists: Celebrating Fleisher Challenge at Twenty and Sidney Goodman: Paintings and Drawings 1959-95.
