Product Description

Have you ever wondered why you can't stick to any diet on a regular basis, or why America is now the fattest nation in the history of civilization? If so, you are not alone. It is all by design. The Vanity Diet is a novel tracking the life of Cyborg Burns, a Las Vegas fitness guru with radical ideas about diet and exercise. Despite completing several life changing transformations, Cyborg watches his clients sucked back into their old eating habits by a mind-numbing force he soon comes to know as The Weightrix. Along the way, Cyborg finds himself facing the challenges of substance abuse, failed relationships, and financial ruin. In the end, not only can Cyborg see The Weightrix clearly, he makes the startling revelation that consciousness, as opposed to diet and exercise, is the only solution to the problem. Written in the form of a koan, The Vanity Diet is a witty, dark and racy novel of one man's search for the truth about diets, himself, and life in general.

5.0 out of 5 stars A voice of sanity amidst the confusion and outright misinformation in the world if diets and fitness, June 4, 2009
This review is from: The Vanity Diet: Destroying The Weightrix (Volume 1) (Paperback)
If what Greg says is correct, then there is a hidden force that prevents us from awakening to our true selves and it achieves this by keeping us addicted to something so powerful that hardly anyone realizes it's a drug. As you read The Vanity Diet you will follow the story of Ciborg Burns and how his search for the ultimate weight loss program takes him face to face with this force which he calls the Weightrix. Greg believes that most of the food that is available to us in our modern day world is simply not what nature intended for us to eat. I think it would be safe to say that the vast majority of people want to live healthier, happier lives but the Weightrix has so many traps and diversions for us like the idea that food has to taste good or that you have to exercise hard to have a fit body that it really takes a great effort and determination to fight it and defeat it. Many people are intellectually aware of this but they see it as an inevitable effect of man's modern ways, they can't grasp the idea that we are dealing with a force that feeds on our misery and disease which of course all you have to do is look around and you will see so many people struggling with obesity which in turns leads to many other health problems. However Greg believes and I happen to agree with him, that it is not by accident but by design. It's impossible to fight an enemy when you can't even see it, let alone be able to defaeat it, therefore the first logical step would be to know who or what it is that you are fighting and once you know this the next thing would be to become aware of its weapons and tactics. This is why I believe Greg's concept of the Weightrix is revolutionary in the sense that it identifies this enemy and he gives you a weapon with which to rid it from your life.

Never could a work more clearly spell out what is so plain for all of us to recognize.
Forget the old adage of " You are what you eat" In just a few concise chapters the author allows us to rediscover the most obvious yet critical fact of existence... "You are what you think"
We can change our consciousness and thus change our bodies?? .... a resounding "YES"

4.0 out of 5 stars A book that stays with you, entertains, and teaches, May 30, 2009
By K. MOYLAN (Worcester, MA USA) - See all my reviews

This review is from: The Vanity Diet: Destroying The Weightrix (Volume 1) (Paperback)
Let me begin by saying that I NEVER would have read this book if a friend hadn't sent it to me. OK, in the interest of full disclosure, it was the author. Still, I feel compelled to write a review because I can't get this book out of my head. I am a history teacher, and I usually have four or five history books piled on my nightstand, waiting to be read when I get the chance, which is usually over the summer. When I got this book, I started reading it (to be kind) and couldn't put it down. I can't really explain it. I was not searching for the answer to a weight problem; I am lucky enough not to have one. Still, I followed the story, and I am a total believer in the basic premise of The Weightrix. Greg's koan explains so much about our culture's relationship with food and the weight loss industry. I heartily recommend this book to people trying to make sense of our world, even if you've never read a 'diet book' in your life.
