You can almost see the writer saying "Oh right, they get together in the end - how am I going to squeeze that in! Let's do that here."
A story based upon Becky Sharp, but not "Vanity Fair" itself would have proven a better film had Nair chosen to honor the 'spirit' she found in the written novel.
Not even the ridiculous oriental dance scene starring Becky, which shows a complete lack of understanding of early 19th century mores, can change that.
