The designs in this book are beautifully photographed and even if you don't crochet you will appreciate the charming decor that was used to showcase the refreshingly current projects.

I must agree with the first reviewer that the title is misleading as more than 2 thirds of the patterns in this book are for afghans, and the remaining third is for wearables with the exception of only 3 projects. I must also agree that the slipper project left me unimpressed but it is only one pattern amongst many impressive ones. I personally love the look of Lion Brand yarns but substituting should be easy for the price-conscious crocheter as every pattern lists the specific yarn weight used. Those who are looking for fashionable and figure flattering garments will be pleased while those who are looking for that gorgeous oversized sweater will find themselves out-of-luck though may find some consolation upon discovering the Chenille Pea Coat pattern. As for the children and men in your life you will only get a small taste of childrens patterns and you will be hard pressed to find a mens pattern.

when I saw this book coming out, I rushed to order thinking it would as great as the other 2 Vanna books are by Leisure Arts. I was somewhat dissapointed as the title says gifts but almost all of the items are afghans with a few sweaters and a really ugly pair of slippers thrown in. Also dissapointing is the fact that most of these projects are stitched using Lion Brands most expensive types of yarn. One afghan calls for 10 skeins of their yarn that sells for ... a roll, pretty hefty. While I do enjoy making these costly projects for special occasions or special people, I would not reccomend this book if you are looking for quick gifts you can make for a reasonable amount of money.

this book is awesome ! my favorite among many other books. Beautiful projects, clear instructions. If you can ,try the lion brand yarn, it is wonderful! I just purchased another copy of this book for my god-daughter.

I love the patterns in this book. So little time, so much to crochet!! I have several xmas gifts in the works from this book. Granted, it does recommend using Lion Brand Yarns for the patterns but all of the patterns I've worked on from this book, I've used cheaper yarns very successfully and everything turned out just as wonderful.

This is a great book with a variety of patterns for crocheters of every skill level. The projects range from traditional crochet to a more modern/chic look. I've made two afghans, a wrap and a cute hat. I found the instructions easy to follow and like that they show two different photo views of each project. This is geared toward Lion Brand yarn products, but found it easy enough to figure out substitutions when I didn't use their yarn. Happy crocheting!

This book has lovely designs for afghans, shawls, jackets, slippers, sweaters, hats, and a pocketbook. The designs are varied, pretty and uncomplicated, and they don't rely on expensive or hard-to-get yarns. I highly recommend this book!

Vanna's Favorite Crochet Gifts is a lovely book of mostly afghans. The pictures are really beautifully done. Most of the instructions seem fairly easy to do. (To be honest, I certainly have not attempted them all!)

It's such a pretty book that any crocheter who loves drooling over plans for new projects is sure to love it.

I just bought this book today and I have been reading it most of this evening. I can't wait to get started on the little girls dress. I also found a project in the book that required Lion Brand Woolspun Thick & Thin which is no longer available, so I have e-mail customer service at Lion Brand and asked them for a suggested substitute. There are some really beautiful projects that I can't wait to get started on.

I love the sweater patterns in this book. I am making the white elegant evening tunic, I am having trouble with the neck shaping instructions. I have taken it to a yarn shop and they can't figure it out. They think there is a misprint in the left side of the neck shaping. To bad there is no phone number to call for possible errors or to explain. I also am using the size hook and same yarn recommended and it is coming out to big.

I have always found Vanna's books to be a valuable resource of ideas.
Her patterns are usually easy to intermediate so I can do them with easy.
Fairly large print so that reading is easy.
Note that most of her stitches for her patterns can be found elsewhere, but the way she puts the patterns together and the way she writes the patterns is the assest of her books.
