Editorial Reviews

Without a doubt one of the most important bands ever to emerge in the world of extreme music, Incantation has set the standard for USDM and is often credited as a pioneer in the genre. For over two decades, Incantation has stood out as one of the most uncompromising forces in metal with their blasphemous and bone- crushing doom-tinged brand of death. Responsible for classics like "Onward to Golgotha" and "Diabolical Conquest", Incantation's legacy speaks for itself. Vanquish in Vengeance, Incantation's long-awaited follow up to 2006's Primordial Decimation, features over 50 minutes of the band's trademark dark and unholy death metal. Recorded at the infamous Mars Recording Compound with Engineer Bill Korecky and mixed and mastered by the legendary Dan Swano at Unisound studios, Vanquish in Vengeance deals with the numerous counts of genocide in the name of religion our society has witnessed over a millennia.

When I was 15 years old, I picked up a little album entitled Onward To Golgotha and was immediately impressed by Incantation's eerie vibe, blasphemous lyrics and outright brutality; I still feel the same about this band 20 years later. This band has always stayed true to their sound , releasing solid album after album. After a six year gap between studio releases, the band has returned with a fire in their bellies. Vanquish in Vengeance combines the battering ram intensity of Blasphemy with the serpentine grooves of The Infernal Storm and barbarity of Diabolical Conquest. This is real death metal the way it is supposed to be and listening to John McEntee scream " Die ! " brings a smile to my face all over again. Bottom line : an essential purchase for any true old school death metal fan .

I'm a fan of Incantation from his early work, including demos and compact. The work that pleases me most are the first two releases, but I never stopped liking each other. The band has always had a sound quality and with minor changes due ace trade training, but always getting key members. With Vanquish in Vengeance Incantation achieved a perfect balance in their compositions, bringing a perfect unholy and brutal death metal with a lot of weight and aggressiveness. All compositions have a brutal atmosphere, and the sound quality and the artwork is to be congratulated!

After over 20 years on the death metal scene, this New York-turned-Pennsylvania group has remained as untouchable as they are inimitable. Their unique blend of sludgy, doom-like pace with blasting chaos, wrapped up in an apocalyptic death/grind aesthetic with blasphemic lyrics that are as soulful as they are chilling...have made them almost-metal-mainstream-but-still-underground heroes of musical extremity. My favorites up until this point have been their 1992 debut, Onward to Golgotha (of course), the 1995 rough-mix version of 1994's Mortal Throne of Nazarene (titled Upon the Throne of Apocalypse), and 1998's milestonic Diabolical Conquest. But Vanquish in Vengeance gives all of these a run for their unholy money. Armed with a new lineup, founding father (and sole original member) John McEntee has retained all of the above-mentioned qualities, and worked in some of the best elements from the more recent releases (crisper production, cascading-blood-arpeggio guitar lines that are reminiscent of longtime Brazilian friends Krisiun). Throw in a continued improvement of the actual playing by each member, and the best mix of anything they've ever produced (in-your-face AND atmospheric at the same time)...and you have a masterpiece. A band at the absolute peak of their powers. Well done, John and Kyle. You and your crew better be ultra-proud of this one.

Yes, it may very well be... no joke. Onward to Golgotha is my favorite death metal album of all time, and this might just best it. I would say it's closer to Diabolical Conquest musically, but it's its own work. Fractals, nature, reality, strength in decay, rebirth... it's all right here, in every track. This isn't a throwback album; They're not striving to reclaim past glory. It's just honest death metal that has real depth and substance.

Very good, cold death/black metal. One always knows what to expect from an Incantation album, and this one doesn't disappoint.

Best album since the debut, Onward to Golgotha. I knew it was going to be great before the first song had even finished, and the production is perfect for Incantation's sound. A must for any Incantation fan!
