An Excellent Fifth Album,
By Shadow (East Coast, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Vantage (Audio CD)
Vantage is the fifth great album by this amazing band from Finland. It is in a similar style to their previous two albums 'Fermina' and 'Volvere' both of which are also great. This new album is heavy in the guitars, very melodic, and has great rhythms. For new listeners, the vocals will appear a little strange (thick accent), but undeniably have a captivating effect which makes the band sound even better!

Unlike recent releases by Sinamore and Katatonia, Fall of the Leafe manages to succeed in playing the so-called style of Gothic Rock/Metal and achieve enjoyable results. While nothing earth shattering, the songs achieve a modest level of atmosphere, and vocalist Tuomas' phrasings are well calculated and to great extent help the songs reach unique highlights. Power-chords are present regularly, while keyboards play a role in the background, adding sad tones to the music. Yes, it's a decent release and it's superior to 95% of the gothic bands out there now. While Tuomas' voice fits the material and has a degree of emotional power, it reminded me of a guy named Rob Thomas, whose voice is intolerable. Now that's a truly scary thought.
