Book Description

Varicose veins and spider veins are both signs of one of the most common, yet most misunderstood, conditions in America: venous insufficiency. Everyone seems to have a different opinion about these unsightly and often painful blood vessels in the legs, but what are the real facts?

This book is designed to explain the basic information that patients need to know in order to have their veins treated appropriately, with both short-term and long-term success.

Beginning with basic anatomy, we look at how these enlarged veins develop, how they are evaluated and treated (with extensive sections on light therapy, sclerotherapy, and surgery), and how to minimize the number of veins that develop in the future. We also look at abnormal veins elsewhere in the body, as well as at two other related conditions that are misunderstood: pelvic congestion syndrome and lymphedema. We also correct the 40 most common myths about varicose veins and spider veins. An extensive glossary of medical terms is included as well.
