Product Description

From the Manufacturer

TITLE: sENCHA HISTORY

Upon visiting Asia in 2001, Sencha Naturals founder David Kerdoon discovered the prevalence of wide-ranging products infused with green tea. Inspired to spread the trend, for the next three years he collaborated with tea masters and connoisseurs to develop gourmet tea-infused products. In 2005, all-natural SEN CHA Green Tea Mints were introduced on the market as the first product line from Sencha Naturals. Sugar-free, certified vegan, and infused with organic Fair Trade green tea, each leaf-shaped breath mint is flavored with botanical oils and sweetened with Lo Han Guo (an herbal extract derived from an Asian berry). In 2008, the SEN CHA line expanded with Green Tea Bars. Certified kosher and vegan, the all-natural snack bars also contain organic Fair Trade green tea, which is decaffeinated through a natural water extraction process. SEN CHA Green Tea Mints & Green Tea Bars currently consist of four flavors: Original, Delicate Pear, Lively Lemongrass, and Morning Lychee. Sencha Naturals releases new flavors on a consistent basis, and up-to-date product information may be found on the company website.

PHILOSOPHY

Sencha Naturals was founded on the basis that a business is measured not only by profitability, but also social responsibility. All SEN CHA products are 100% natural, wheat/gluten-free, certified vegan & Fair Trade, and contain organic decaffeinated green tea extract. In an effort to promote environmental sustainability, Sencha Naturals sources its ingredients from local & organic companies whenever possible. SEN CHA Green Tea Mints are manufactured in a company-owned facility that is powered by 100% renewable solar energy, and all SEN CHA products are made in the USA.

I'm not a mint fan, but got some from a friend and was hooked! Altoids and most of the others have a really 'minty' feel which doesn't sit well with me. These mints are refreshing, but not overwhelming...nice change!

My only complaint is that there hard to find. I want to my local Whole Foods and they don't carry them or any other health food stores...maybe a new product?

Anyway, I would recommend if you want something different. A plus is the container which is very cool and can be re-used to store change, etc.

Great job guys!

~Selma

The tins these mints come in are very cute. I enjoyed the flavors, I found them to be pleasant though they are unique. The flavors are mild but refreshing. The Green tea flavor is the most "mint-like." My favorite was the Lemongrass, which is flavorful and little bit peppy. I also enjoyed the Pear, but the flavor was so subtle and mild I took to chewing them which was a bad idea. Something about the Delicate Pear mints were addictive and while deeply engrossed on a project on the computer I must have eaten 15-20 mints, over the course of 2 hours. About 4 hours later I had painful cramping, gas, diarrhea. I didn't suspect the mint had anything to do with this, until I repeated the experience, a few days later and had identical symptoms. I stopped eating the mints and haven't had this problems since.

The two sweeteners for this product are Sorbitol and Xylitol. After some research it looks like the culprit for my stomach upset was likely Sorbitol. This sweeteners is used in many cough syrups and while eating 3 mints a day will probably not cause you any grief. In large enough quantities (many studies say 40 grams will cause this effect but in my case it was much, much less) Sorbitol is known to cause extreme gas, bloating and intestinal upset. Also a note to diabetics: Blindness and loss of extremities (usually feet) in diabetics is attributed to the body's build up of Sorbitol, which the body makes in very small quantities naturally and has difficulty flushing out. I do not have diabetes but I am somewhat chemically sensitive.

If a person eats 3 or 4 mints a day they are unlikely to develop any symptoms, but I am surprised that a company which seems to promote high consumer values and is a "natural" product, would use Sorbitol as a sweetener.

If you love green tea, you will LOVE these mints. All three flavors are quite good...so good that I'm planning to give a few tins away as gifts. I was skeptical, at first, about whether these would taste good and freshen my mouth; they do both. If you're expecting Altoids or Fisherman's Friend mints, look elsewhere. These are mild and probably wouldn't do much to combat garlic/cigarette smoke, etc.

Also, these have no aftertaste like TicTacs. Factor in the health benefits of green tea, and you've got yourself a new mint!

I love mints. Nothing to clear your breath after a workout, lunch or before an afternoon meeting. After trying these mints, they have become my top choice. One of the greatest features is that 3 mints equals 1 cup of green tea, which has myriad medicinal and digestive benefits. I recently quit drinking coffee and switched over to green tea, so these mints also help me when I need a little pick me up too. I highly recommend this product.

I'm impressed. I was expecting something more like candy, but no. These are not only tasty and healthy for you, they'll freshen your breath, and there's no sugar. I've had then for about a week now and I've only opened 2, the Pear and the Lemongrass. Both are great and there must be about 60 mints in each container. I recommend these to everyone.

I purchased these online after sampling a mint from a friend just back from CO. The variety pack available on Amazon gave a broad tasting to the different flavors. My favorite was lively Lemongrass. The Delicate Pear was a pleasing different taste. Overall, These mints are a refreshing change from both the "pedestrian" store mints and the super-powerful "mouth bombs". Who knows if there is any healthy benefit to the Green Tea aspect, but the delightful flavors are enough to make the sale. The Amazon sale price and Free Shipping available at the time cinched the deal for a great purchase.

Why aren't these mints available in more stores?! They taste better than mints, specially if you're a big tea person. I've tried all of their flavors and I personally love them all, each flavor leaves a soothing after taste, while also leaving you with better breath. Three of these candy tasting mints is like drinking one cup of tea =] My friends and I are pretty much addicted to them, caffeine and sugar free, this company has it going on!

by the way I love the cute packaging!

I have been a long time Altoids user and when I saw these, decided to give them a shot. I figured if I can get some benefits of tea (which I don't drink)....why not.

Products were unique and each had a flavor that was quite different than typical mints. I didn't care so much for the Original flavor (a little too tea like), but the others were amazing! Supposedly 3 mints = 1 Cup of tea, so this is another plus to the product of getting some antioxidants. They're a little pricier than other mints, but a good alternative when you get tired of the others.
