4.0 out of 5 stars VERY Colorful, December 29, 1999
This review is from: Various [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This contains all the videos that were made for PSB's, "Very" album, as well as the single, "Absolutely Fabulous." Filmed in the early 90's, these videos use computer generated sets and images to help the boys on their continuing musical journey through popculture. They ditch their previous "frowning look for substance and depth" appearance for smiles and even some dancing on Neil's part. Any PSB fan should own this video (or Laserdisc--for their is no DVD, sadly) and you'll probably enjoy it. The PSB are known for expensive, flashy vidoes, and this is them in their peak. Includes Go West, Can You Forgive Her, Liberation, Yesterday When I was Mad, Ab Fab, and I wouldn't normally do... Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars PSB fans, buy this NOW!, March 23, 2000
This review is from: Various [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is an EXCELLENT collections of the videos from "Very". It's fantastic! If you're a serious PSB collector, you know how their stuff disappears almost as soon as it's released. It's a bit pricey for a 30 minute videotape, but it's well worth it! The visuals are computer-generated diva-techno-dance-camp!

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty darn cool, February 11, 2001
This review is from: Various [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Looks good, sounds great. Not exactly a ton of videos, but enough to make you see that they put alot of work into making these. The videos are all computer generated, with the boys mixed in odd and fun places. I first saw this video in a clothing store, where they usually play videos among all the "popular" clothing items. When I finally got it, I was right: "Liberation" is by far the best one on this tape. Pet Shop Boys have a futuristic feel to their music, and these computerized videos give their music a vision. The video is like icing on the cake; this is a must for hard-core fans.

Unlike other Pet Shop Boys videos,Discography or Performance, here the word is computer. This video is a rare collection from their album "Very" with videos computer assisted.. Go West, a Village People classic, and even Absolutely Fabulous, from the british series, are enhanced with a lots of digital arrangements. This is a fan collector video.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very absolutely fabulous, November 9, 2005
This review is from: Various [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The videos included on this tape include 'Can you forgive her' (the first single released from the album 'Very'), 'Go West' (the remake of the Village People hit), 'I wouldn't normally do this kind of thing', 'Liberation', 'Yesterday, when I was mad', 'Absolutely fabulous' (done in honour of the British comedy of the same name), and a reprise of 'Go West'.

Perhaps the best videos here are 'Go West' and 'Absolutely fabulous'. The song 'Go West' is a triumphalist song, not just toward the Village People, California-directed image, but also, coming at the end of the Cold War, there are images of the Eastern European nations looking westward for inspiration and support. The song 'Absolutely fabulous' is filled with clips from the sit-com, and the music incorporates samples of Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley in conversation in the wild, wacky way. This series was cult classic, particularly among gay audiences, so it makes a lot of sense that the Pet Shop Boys, long gay icons themselves, would do this kind of tribute.

The name of the game here is computer generated graphics - this video, produced in 1995, took advantage of a new generation of technology that permitted incorporation of live subjects with wild motion graphic video, doubling, etc. All seven videos here involve massive programming, a sort of video component of the heavy electronic feel of most of the Pet Shop Boys music, perhaps most heavy on the album underpinning this collection, 'Very'.

This is a must for any fan of the Pet Shop Boys. A few of the videos here appear on their later greatest hits collection, Pop-Art, but this is the only collection that has some of these songs in video form, and they are not to be missed.
