Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

Loudmouth, the Foo Fighters, Third Eye Blind, and even vintage Van Halen show up on the Varsity Blues soundtrack, a disc that pretty accurately captures the sounds you'd hear coming out of a Middle American high school parking lot circa 1998-1999. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. Green Day's "Nice Guys Finish Last" and Fastball's "Are You Ready for the Fallout?" are two of the collection's standout tracks. There's also a nice thematic slant to the music, with several tracks addressing the perils of competition and sports. Monster Magnet's "Kick Out the Jams" is one of the better rock anthems, and Redd Kross's "Teen Competition" (along with Black Lab's "Black Eye") adds some needed pop diversity to this collection. Sure, it's heavy on the testosterone and guitars, but for a movie about 17-year-old football players living in rural Texas, it sounds just about right. --Jason Verlinde

4.0 out of 5 stars Get ready to get pumped! August 1, 2000
By Emily
Format:Audio CD
This cd is a great combination of some very talented music makers, there isn't one song that I want to skip! I love to listen to this cd right before I go on the field. The cd booklet has great pictures, too! I suggest this cd for anyone who likes to get pumped and to anyone who loves rock. The only problem, no AC/DC, though it lacked that, it's still great!

5.0 out of 5 stars Varsity Rock....not Blues February 14, 1999
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
At first I didn't want to see the movie, but a friend of mine dragged me to it. It was actually quite good, but what causght my attention the most was the awesome soundtrack. I could hear Foo Fighters and Collective Soul and many others. I bought the soundtrack the next day. It is one of about 5 that I listen to over and over. I highly recommend this CD.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but not great...
Maybe it's just me but Sprung Monkey sucks compared to AC/DC. The worst thing they could have done was use their awful cover of "Thunderstuck," and that exactly what they did. Read more
