Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

Ready to . . . SCORE? You Can!

Davies’ 1–2–3 Step Ultrasound Education & Test Preparation is a proven, systematic, step-by-step means of preparing for the registry examinations that works, not only for test preparation, but also for clinical education, cross-training, and classroom education. Here’s how . . .

Step 1—Review Texts:

CME-approved didactic texts cover and explain everything on the exam content outlines published by the ARDMS, concisely and precisely, with illustrations and references. They do such a good job that they are used in ultrasound programs throughout the country and by professionals for cross-training and continuing medical education.

Step2—Mock Examinations:

Test yourself! Our well-known, registry-like practice exams identify your strengths and weaknesses by exam topic, familiarize you with the format and style of the registry exams, and measure your progress as you study. (Now available in both book & CD-ROM versions!)

Step 3—Q&A Memory Skills Flashcard Drills:

Great confidence builders! ScoreCards allow you to reinforce the concepts and principles covered in Step 1 reviews as well as those you must know to answer the more complicated registry-style questions in the Step 2 mock exams.

Life Is A Test . . . Pass It!

About the Author

Don Ridgway is a practicing vascular technologist and an instructor in the vascular technology program at Grossmont College in California, where he was responsible for seeing that program become the first vascular technology curriculum to receive American Medical Association accreditation. Don brings teaching skills from several different disciplines and areas of experience: He has taught writing and fencing (swords, not chain-link) at San Diego University, and for ten years he played and taught bluegrass banjo, mandolin, guitar, and Dobro. He still gets to pick occasionally when he is not on call, lecturing, or grading quizzes.
Cindy Owen is the author of Ultrasound Physics Review, ScoreCards for Vascular Technology, and Abdominal Sonography Review. A former ARDMS and ICAVL board member, Cindy is Global Manager of Luminary & Research Programs for GE Healthcare. Cindy lives with her family in Memphis and enjoys riding her horse Gus.
Dr. Strandness pioneered the development of duplex ultrasonography, served as Professor and Chair of the Department of Vascular Surgery at the University of Washington, lectured throughout the world, and authored dozens of major books and hundreds of original articles before his recent death.
Barton Bean, founding president of the Society of Vascular Technology and seminal figure in the history of the field, is editor emeritus of the highly acclaimed ARDMS registry mock examination, Vascular Technology Review. Bart lectures and consults peers and students of the vascular field throughout the country.

More About the Author

Don Ridgway is a professor (now partly retired) in the Grossmont College Cardiovascular Technology Program. He has taught and worked in the vascular sonography field since 1985. He graduated from San Diego State University with a degree in Comparative Literature in 1970, played bluegrass music for a living for 10+ years, and then finally got a useful job after completing the Grossmont CVT Program.

His "Introduction to Vascular Scanning," from Davies Publishing, was first published in 1991, and the much-expanded and improved 4th edition is now available. (Get this one, not the previous editions; he worked hard to make the 4th edition better.)

Don is also the editor of "Vascular Technology Review" (also from Davies Publishing), containing approximately 600 study questions for sonographers preparing for the ARDMS (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers) registry exam.

"Vascular Anatomy & Physiology," a textbook for students preparing for a career in vascular sonography, is expected in early 2015.

Very helpful for test review.

I like how it will tell you why the answer is what it is and explains it in detail, it will also show a reference as to where it came from.

The Davies review books are an excellent study source addition when preparing for any of the ARDMS registry exams.

I used this book for my vascular anatomy exam, and I passed! I mainly do venous studies in my department, with limited arterial study exposure from a prior job. I really like the other imaging modality questions and explanations (i.e. MRI & Angiography studies and what is the pathology in question). They do put questions like that on the boards. Yes, I am a Rad Tech (4 yrs. professional).

The Davies review books are an excellent study source addition when preparing for any of the ARDMS registry exams.
This Vascular Technology Review book not only has over 500 questions designed around the ARDMS outline but includes a chapter
of pictures and questions as well. The questions can be a bit challenging but guides you in the right direction. Questions missed show you where your weaknesses are enabling you to spend additional time in those areas. You can't go wrong using this as one of your study sources. I used it along with two other books and passed the ARDMS vascular examination with no problem. However, I studied for 3 months prior to sitting for this exam which according to the test site is very rarely passed on the first try. I would highly recommend this review book for the RVT exam.

Ok book to prep for your vascular exam, Like all others, you will need more than just one text book to
be able to field questions from the ARDMS exam. Also print paper quality is poor on pictures.

Yes helped me very much...has a lot of great review like questions. however u do not depend solely on this book . Knowledge is needed from a vascular book to coincide with questions
