This is a new edition of the successful textbook providing updated, detailed information on clinical, epidemiologic, pathophysiologic and therapeutic aspects of common and rare forms of vasculitis. New chapters include pathology of vasculitis, autoantibodies, animal models of vasculitis and PET scanning. Separate sections are devoted to basic science, clinical manifestations commonly seen in vasculitis, imaging and perpcutaneous interventions, individual diseases and syndromes as well as conditions which can mimic vasculitis. Subsumed under clinical manifestations are chapters, some new, which deal with skin, oral ulcers, eyes, cardiopulmonary system, nervous system, the gastrointestinal track, kidney and digital ischemia and Raynaud's phenomenon. Other chapters address diagnostic approaches to adults and to children with suspected vasculitis, as well as assessment of disease activity and damage. Individual chapters are written by authorities from throughout the world.

"Few vasculitis textbooks are available and to find all one is looking for in one place is beyond helpful...This is a comprehensive and invaluable tool."--Doody's

"Few vasculitis textbooks are available and to find all one is looking for in one place is beyond helpful...This is a comprehensive and invaluable tool."--Doody's

"A formidable reference work, a major contribution that challenges the specialist. Lavishly illustrated, including 125 color plates and innumerable graphs and tables, this is every immunologist's and rheumatologist's wish fulfillment...This is the most valuable book to have."--JAMA

"The material is well-organized in a logical structure and provides ample help for a better clinical care. Specialists in different medical fields as well as vasculitis experts and researchers will find this book a helpful information source..[These specialists] are regularly confronted with disease manifestations that may have an underlying vasculitic cause. This is never a routine business, and a solid reference textbook on the shelf will be greatly appreciated by a clinician. This edition is compiled in order to fulfill this need and deserves its place on the office shelf."--Rheumatology

4.0 out of 5 stars Detailed medical textbook, June 19, 2010

This review is from: Vasculitis (Hardcover)
This is a detailed medical textbook with chapters that read very much like journal articles. Probably a relatively difficult book for the non-medical person unless you're willing to use a medical dictionary quite a bit. Each chapter has dozens or hundreds of references to published journal articles. There are some photos, both black and white and in color. The list of abreviations isn't 100% complete, but still useful. The chapter authors are from the USA and from around the world, with several big-name university research hospitals represented. Despite the deep medical jargon, I am finding this to be a valuable reference that is helping me understand what is known about vasculitis, and also to see how much more research needs to be done in this family of rare conditions.
