The Vasque boots fit great and felt very good on my feet right out of the box.
They fit perfectly, are breaking in fast and very comfortable on day one.
Out of the box great fit and really comfortable - no break-in required.

These boots are comfortable, rugged and I would defiantly recommend them. I have been using them for about a year and a half and the only complaint that I have is that they are no longer completely waterproof. They will still keep my feet dry while hiking through snow or wet fields, but if I completely submerge them water will enter the boot. When I first purchased them this was not the case but regardless I would buy this boot again.

2 years later: I'm still using the same pair of boots I originally purchased and I have grown to love them even more. I have put these things through hell and haven't done any maintenance or upkeep on them. They are extremely robust and I'm amazed at how well the gortex has held up. On top of all this, I really like they way they look and feel on my feet. I will never buy another pair of hiking boots so long as Vasque continues to make this product. I really can't recommend them highly enough.

I've been wearing a 10.5 which is the same size as my nike running shoe.

3.5 years later: I have finally replaced the original shoelaces after they self destructed. It was over the course of weeks, so I wouldn't be overly worried about needing to replace a lace on the trail (some rhyming!). I've finally started to clean and polish the boots because the leather was beginning to dry and crack. At this point, these boots are so well worn in that I want to keep them forever. After cleaning them, they still look great; and I have a feeling they will be lasting for quite some time more. I'll be back to update next year! - Also, looking back I commented on the integrity of the gortex - I can't say that I've had any problems in the last few years.

I have owned 6 pair of VASQUE Clarion GTX boots.

I go through a pair a year because I wear them every day, I wear out the bottom of the boot and have to get new ones. The one exception to that is I always have two pair, since they are nubuck leather they get a bit trashing looking after I use them for logging and my wife won't let me wear them in public so I have one work pair and one everyday pair. I do logging and split about 100 cords a year and I hike a great deal and last year I got into snowshoeing. This week I have done over 10 miles of snowshoeing.

I first bought this boot in Maine when I went to hike Cadillac Mountain in Acadia national park. The salesman at Cadillac mountain sports really knew his stuff. He asked are you going to wear them today and I explained I was going to start a 3 day hike that day.

IMPPORTANT NOTE: I added an insole on top of the existing foot bed

The salesman told me to buy the Vasque GTX and to upsize it by ½ a shoe size, then add an insole (made by a company Superfeet only use the blue insole not the green ones) Superfeet® Active Insoleson top of the existing foot bed. Do not remove the existing foot bed; just put the new one on top of it. I wear a 9.5 shoe so I got a size 10 boot. I used a Superfeet blue size E insole. SPECIAL NOTE: this works for me and my setup, but some people have had problems with the insole cutting into the goretex, this has never happened to me an I don't trim the foot I just put it in. If this is an issue or concern Superfeet has retailers that can make a custom insoles that will solve the problem, but I would just try the off the shelf product first.

I honestly didn't expect to like this boot. I wouldn't have even bought it, except I got a good deal on it through Amazon. The first thing I noticed is how dang light they are. I mean, they're no sneaker, but for a serious hiking boot, they're unbelievably light! Water proofing is good. They don't breathe all that great, but they're not as bad as most of the all leather+gortex boots out there. They have some kind of moisture wicking lining. It's not as good as Cambrelle liner, but at least one's there.

One of the reasons I was so hesitant to buy this boot was that it didn't have Vibram Soles. I know Skywalk soles are pretty trusted, and that a lot of boot makers (like Scarpa) have used them to great effect, but still I worried. Now it seems like a piddly concern. They grip every bit as well as the Vibram soles on my other boots. I have a pair of Dannet ML2's and a pair of Scarpa SL M3's, and I honestly feel much more confident in these boots than in those.

Another reason I was hesitant about these is that they don't have full leather uppers (for ankle support while carrying heavy weights). But I have no problem caring loads of up to 35 lbs in these (I haven't gone higher). The boot is also great for day-hikes. It's one of the few boots (along with the much more expensive Danner ML2) that equally good for day hiking and backpacking.

One thing that you should know about these boots is that they run big, both in width and length. They have much more toe room than my Danner ML2's and WAY more toe room than my Sacrpas (which is a wide width). However, I had to order a full size down from my normal size (15) because I had WAY too much extra room in the toe.
