Haven't used them yet, fit perfectly, and look like the new sole to boot rimming will add years of usage.
The Vasque boot fits great, looks good and is comfortable.
Two of my newer pairs have had problems with the sole coming unglued from the upper but that's fixable.

Men's Sundowner GTX Hiking Boot
Vasque Sundowner GTX Hiking Boot
Vasque Sundowner GTX Hiking Boot

Heralded as 'the boot that built the brand,' the Vasque Sundowner GTX hiking boot with Gore-Tex waterproof technology has a reputation for longevity, comfort, and old-school style. As common in the city as it is on the trail, the Sundowner is the ideal blend of form and function--making it suitable for either backpacking or an easy day hike.

Simple, Timeless Design

The Vasque Sundowner GTX's simple and timeless design has made it the benchmark for backpacking boots for over 25 years. The cement construction adds forefoot flexibility without reducing the support and stability you need under a heavy pack, while the one-piece, full-grain leather upper eliminates seams, giving the boot its iconic look.

Features Gore-Tex Fabric Technology

The Sundowner's waterproof and breathable GORE-TEX membrane, water repellent laces, and seam-sealing technology keep water and moisture out, ensuring a comfortable, relaxing hike.

Ok...a bit of background: I purchased my 1st ever pair of Vasque (sundownders) just before a backpacking trip about 8 years ago. From the moment I put these boots on, they were the most comfortable things I have EVER worn. Right out of the box they felt like socks (I'm not exaggerating). I didn't have the time to properly break them in before my trip, however, as it turns out...no break in was needed. Flash forward 5 years, my trusty sundowners were still the most comfortable things I'd EVER worn...even as I dropped them in the trash (a tear in my eye) due to the fact that I had completely worn out the soles & one of the eyelets had broken. When I orderd this NEW pair...i was expecting a similar experience. WRONG! They look the same...they are still very light and seem to be well made. HOWEVER...after 1 very pain-full day at work (made the mistake of wearing them to work as soon as they arrived) and 6 days of casual use (to hopefully break them in) I am EXTREMELY disappointed. Even after 7 days of wearing these boots I am unable to walk for more than an hour or so before my feet are causing me a ridiculous amount of pain. The leather they are using is MUCH harder than whatever they used in the past, my old pair had decent padding on the inside...these feel as though there is no more than a thin layer of fabric between your delicate flesh and the steel hard leather uppers.
If I had wanted a pair of mass produced cheap boots that required a very painful break-in period, I would have gone with a much cheaper pair of boots. Compared to other boots i have worn during the break-in period...these DO NOT hold up well.

Do not buy these boots if you have owned a pair before. I bought a pair about 5 years ago, and they were one of the first editions manufactured in China. I loved the boots and didn't think the quality was any worse for not being made in Italy. I then just baught another pair to replace my beat-down pair and the current design is pathetic. The fit was all wrong and the materials were cheap and felt like palstic. They don't even have the skywalk sole anymore. Don't waste your time...

This was going to be my third generation of Vasque Sundowners. The first 2 brought me over the Himalayas twice, across the Beartooth and through the jungles of Laos.

What was sent this time resembled my previous boots in name only. I could tell the moment I opened the box that Vasque has given up completely on making quality boots. They were the worst shoes of any kind I have ever had the displeasure of putting on my feet. The leather was of completely inferior quality. The fit was horrible with space where there should be none, and tight everywhere else. I am only grateful to the excellent return policy of Amazon...

I got these about a week before I took a major trip. I wore them everywhere for that week to break them in. I was hoping that would be enough. While on my trip (backpacking in E. Europe), I got terrible blisters on the tops of my big toes (where the top of the boots pinched them). Also, as others have reported the tops of the boots hit just wrong on my ankles. This is my second pair of Sundowners. They don't match the quality or fit of my first pair. After 2 painful weeks in Europe, I had to stop in a store and buy a pair of Nike's, just to I could walk.

They didn't fit too well for me. There's too much room in the toe area. Ankle support was great but overall the boots felt a bit unbalanced, maybe because of the extra room and looseness up front. I heard the originals fit better. This is my first experience with the brand so I couldn't compare them to the original Italian-made Sundowners but they do seem to be pretty well made even though many 'veteran' Vasque users here will disagree. I needed a pair of boots where I can use for both outdoor (light hiking) and casual everyday use around town - and they MUST look good! After many comparisons and reviews, it came down to either the Danner Mountain Light II or the Sundowner. The Danners are American-made but the Vasque costs nearly $100 less at the time. Unfortunately the Vasque didn't fit too well so I returned them and bought the Danner Mountain II. Yes, they costs more but they can be re-crafted or re-soled down the line by Danner. Also, they are U.S.-Made, not necessarily quality these days but at least I'm doing my part. We'll see how that goes on my next take.

When Vasque boots were made in Italy they were perfection. From the mid-1980s through the late 1990s I use Vasque skywalk and sundowner boots, Italian made, and they've always held up extremely well. As you wore them they became more and more comfortable eventually molding to your feet. Your new models made in China are real crap. I bought a pair about three years ago and broke them in around the house, took them on a 13 mile hike with a 3000 foot elevation gain and they fell apart. I slipped and hit a rock and it cut right through the leather. Italian made boots lasted forever no matter what obstacles they encountered. The best boots I can recommend today are either Scarpa or Salewa. They both maintain great quality control.
Vasque quality control leaves a lot to be desired.
