VST ruined the Velocity..., March 25, 2011
This review is from: Vasque Men's Velocity VST Trail Running Shoe (Apparel)
The Vasque Velocity used to be a great light-midweight hiker shoe or heavyweight trail runner, but they decided to mess up what used to be a great shoe. The two big problems are 1) delamination of the sole causing squeaking and the VST bubble; and 2) the new fit which causes the foot to slight forward into the toe box. I never had either of these problems with the old Velocity, and from the recent clearance and withdrawal of the Velocity VST it seems that even Vasque has figured out that the current model has some serious problems.
If your VSTs are squeaking, they the sole has delaminated. The first pair of Velocity VSTs I purchased developed the squeak and delam bubble in a single day. Most reviews which mention this problem have it occurring after 1-3 months.
Since the new design causes my foot to move forward, pressing my toes into the toe box, it's no good for trail running or hiking. It is a nice looking shoe, though- the one thing Vasque improved with the latest model.
Until Vasque fixes both serious problems I can't imagine using the Velocity VST for anything but casual street wear. Time to check out the Montrail Sabino Trail, I guess.

It's Okay, March 15, 2010
Not much to high-light. It looks cool, I think. Thin socks help with the fit but don't add to the comfort. The shoes do well on hard uneven trails but they fail on pavment. If you are looking for a shoe that can do both then look elsewhere.

Good shoe overall, May 15, 2009
Overall this a good shoe. Comfort for general use is excellent. Vasque has also done a nice job improving the fit of the shoe from the previous style, making the shoe fit more capable of being snug from the top of the arch to the toe area, by shortening the amount of lace. They also beefed up the cushioning of the heel, which should be great for trail running.
The only noteworhy area that is an issue, albeit a smaller one, is the construction of the tread pattern on the heels of the shoes is significantly larger than the previous style and creates a tendency to scuff the heel area a little too easily when walking, which makes one squeak the heel on floors or trip a little too easily on carpeting. That said, this extra area should be very beneficial in trail running.
