The Vasque Wasatch lives up to its reputation for unusual out of the box comfort. I took a brand new pair on a hard hike and rock scramble last weekend with no blisters or other problems.

The boots also managed to stay completely dry even though recent rains had transformed the trails into small brooks.

Be aware that the Wasatch is a little on the heavy side for a day hiker. On the plus side, that heaviness translates into superior ankle support. The quality of the leather uppers appears to be a big step up over boots costing a little less. Also appreciated is the fact that the soles are softer and stick better on bare rock than is usual for a heavier boot.

The claim that the boot runs true to size is probably correct, but also a little bit odd because no one will buy these to wear with thin dress socks on sidewalks. Thick hiking socks will add roughly one-half size, and a hiking boot should also be sized with extra space at the toe. The bottom line is that my size (United States) in a dress shoe is 10.5 wide, while my best fit in the Vasque Wasatch was 11.5 medium.

Bought this boot four years ago. Have gone through one pair laces and just bought new innersoles for them. They wear like iron, just need occasional water proofing. They are my work boots---lawn moving, garden work, and everything else outdoors. They are worn at least eight hours a day in the growing season. Whenever these wear out, will definitely buy another pair just like them.

I bought this boot in my usual boot size (1/2 larger than dress shoe) in a wide. I'm wearing this boot everyday to support a broken second metatarsal. It's comfortable and supportive. It has a generous toe box, but my feet do not slide forward in the boot when going downhill. I've only been out on short (3mile) easy hikes, so far, fit and comfort are great. Looking forward to more rigorous terrain once my foot heals. Very short break in period (first week I only wore 2-3 hours a day at work), now I wear all day. I usually wear with smartwool trek or tholo socks but these boots are also comfortable with thinner socks.

Update 12-25-09. Survived Kansas blizzard in these boots. After 2.5 hours out in snow feet are warm and dry. Awesome.

This is a sturdy boot for backpacking. Also for dayhiking on the rough rocky terrain of the desert Southwest in the winter. As with most Vasque boots, it has a wide toe box and narrow heel giving your toes ample room and eliminating hot spots. The Vibram soles are tough and will last for many miles. They are true to size, maybe even a little roomy for your size if you wear a thin sock. I learned from an Alipinist many years ago in Switzerland that wearing a thin sock so that your boot can fit snuggly on your foot without squishing around is the proper way to fit a boot. This boot does just that. If you insist on wearing a thick sock, you'll need a half-size bigger.

The last boot I bought was a Keen boot for it's wide toe box, but after one year on rugged rocky terrain the non-Vibram sole completely wore out. Many years ago I loved my Vasque Sundowners, and now these boots are a good replacement for those.

I have owned 3 pairs of Vasque boots. All 3 pairs cracked across the tread all the way through the rubber. After about 9 months I noticed the cracks and emailed them in (thinking I received a flawed boot). They did send me another pair and they did the exact same thing. When I called them again, they blew me off and wouldn't refund my money or exchange them. I sent them the pair for an inspection and they sent them back saying sorry, but we're not doing anything about after 1 year. So these boots have a 1 year warranty. You can read plenty more reviews about the cracked Vibram soles here. [...] Very poor product.

I love these boots. So much so that when my old pair wore out I got two sets, one for everyday use and one for hiking (I'd like to have a pair of hiking boots with good treads and I will say a year of walking the dog on pavement everyday wears out the treads pretty quick but I don't need the treads to stay good to be useful for my everday shoes honestly, long as they stay wateroproof).

They were comfortable (I have wide feet with bunions so I have a really hard time to fit). Even when they stopped offering wide in my size (apparently now they only offer wide in size 7 or bigger) the regular non wides still fit my feet fine.

They lasted me 2 1/2 years (yes, I know several people said longer but I am hard on my shoes, I tend to wear my favorite pair everyday to do everything with so these were my everyday shoes. Plus in the summer several 7 mile walks around the surrounding neighborhoods and daily mile and a half walks really wear out the sole which was made for trails, not pavement. And I tend to walk in a way that all my shoes get very uneven heels after a while. It took a year or more before that started to show on these shoes and usually you can tell by half a year that I wear my shoes unevenly and by a year usually with most shoes it is obviously unhealthy to be still using them they're so worn unevenly). When I threw them away you'd never know why until you looked at the sole, the upper was in great condition (but the soles were just trashed at that point. And you could finally tell I put more pressure on the outer edge of my foot. And it still didn't look as bad there as some of my shoes have before I throw them away). Overall, first pair of shoes I've had that lasted me 2 years (usually they're done by 1).
