If there was an author new to the world of publishing that I would place next to Ray Bradbury, Edgar Allan Poe, and Isaac Asimov, it would be Michael K. Rose. His collection Short Stories was not only entertaining, it was filling from both a philosophical as well as emotional viewpoint. It was at times dark, light and colorful. It was sound in element, true to form and at no time did I think to myself "That's it?"

Short Stories is not only thought-provoking, it is the purest form of literature, as rich as a bottle of Montrachet 1978 and as tasty as a generous cut of Wagyu beef.

Rose's style reminds me of two authors in particular: Poe and Bradbury. I mention this because I so immersed myself in their work when I was younger, I thought there could never be an equal. Perhaps in time, Rose's work will sit high on the shelf with these two greats. For now, though, his work sits on MY shelf along with the best the world of literature has seen.

Every so often, a writer comes along that changes the way you see the world around you. For me, Michael K. Rose is that author, his writings while entertaining make me contemplate life, love, and the future.

"Short Stories" is a collection of stories that explore humanity and the unknown."Sergeant Riley's Account","Sleep",Inner Life","Mahler's Tenth," and "If I Profane With My Unworthiest Hand"; previous stories by Rose flesh out this collection with several other new tales.

It's hard to pick a favorite of the new group of tales, but "Pedro X." is one that clings to the recesses of my mind. It is a powerful read that strikes close to the heart(for me).
What else can I say? Stop reading this review and purchase "Short Stories" to find out just how good Michael K. Rose is.

I struggled to find my favorite of these short stories as they were all great in their own way. I read them in a couple of sittings, and I enjoyed the switches that my mind made from one story to the next. I know many people review short story collections and say there is something for everyone, but that has not always held true for me.

Michael K. Rose has accomplished just that in his latest release. There truly is something for everyone in Short Stories. I had fun reading the collection, and I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Thanks Mr. Rose for providing me with a well written, thought provoking book.

Readers familiar with this author will jump at the chance to sample any new offering and for the newcomer this is a wonderful opportunity to learn why that's true. Effortlessly crossing genres in a manner few authors can match, Rose continues to mesmerize readers with tales as varied as they are enjoyable. Whether it's an eerie spine-tingling tale that plunges into the depths of the inner mind or a galaxy-spanning science fiction, readers are in for a fantastic journey that won't disappoint. Words like superlative, captivating and thought-provoking are rightfully used to describe the author's work in general and that includes this collection. I heartily give "Short Stories" an enthusiastic `thumbs-up' and 5-star rating.

Short Stories is filled with thought-provoking, emotionally-charged stories. From the science fiction of everyday life, to the inner life of a human being, to the mysterious expanses of space, these stories are vessels to carry you to places you never dreamed you could go. No other writer today can pull together such different stories and weave the words together with the skill to keep you thinking about them long after you have finished. Definitely not a collection you want to miss!
