This is one of the best hammers for your money. Im a professional framer and I have used everything from the 10$ "value" hammer to the 300$ stiletto. This is one of the best balanced hammers out there. The grip does start to split on the back of the handle but put some tennis tape on and its back to work. If you want to spend big money go for the stiletto but if you want the same hammer at 1/6th the price i would recommend it.

Just purchased one of these to test out on our DeConstruction projects. Our non-profit, The National Center for Craftsmanship, specializes in hand deconstructing and recycling entire buildings while training students. So far I think this hammer was made for deconstruction! (I will edit this review if we discover it doesn't hold up to our intensity of work.)

PROS
~ Made in USA!
~ Good working weight
~ Magnetic nail holder
~ Side nail puller
~ Milled face
~ Flat top that prevents hammer rolling when pulling nails
~ Short claws for nail pulling

CONS
~ The interior edges of the claw could be sharper to facilitate pulling headless nails. (A technique difficult to describe in words.)

This hammer has so many uses, I own a lot of hammers and the Vaughn V5 is by far my favorite! I like the "chisel like" claws probably the most. You can fit them just about anywhere and really don't need any alternate prying device, so its like two for one. The side pull feature is awesome for leverage and the overall balance is right on..... Overall I would give this hammer 5 out of 5 stars which is pretty hard to do given the choices available today.

Was very happy with the hammer until two weeks ago and the face started splitting. I do framing work, and the hammer has not been abused, i am the only one that uses it. It is now worthless, 50 bucks in the scrap metal pile.

I had this hammer for 6 years. It got stolen from a jobsite, so I bought another, actually I bought two more, one for me, one for hired labor.

I love this hammer. The nail-puller on the side is awesome. Why don't all hammers have this? That feature alone has made this hammer pay for itself. You'll never break the handle on an all-steel hammer. The claw at the back is sharp and straight for notching framing. 19 ounces is just the right amount of swing for a real framing hammer. All these 16-ounce titanium hammers on the market for $100 and up is bulls***. And 23 ounces? Maybe if you're a body-builder. A 19 ounce hammer will sink nails all day long without wrecking your hand. If you want more juice to really knock something around, grab the 10 lb. sledge.
