Best hammer value in the world.,

This review is from: Vaughan FS999ML 20-Ounce -Inch999-Inch Straight Claw Hammer, Milled Face, Straight Fiberglass Handle, 16-Inch Long (Tools & Home Improvement)
Until Douglas hammers came along, this hammer was without peer for framing and general carpentry. And it still is in the value department, as Douglas costs 2 1/2 times as much.
Caveat: I've never been a fan of the 'California' style, fat, squat head. Or curved, 'axe' style handles. Or macho 32 oz. heads for framing. Or mega bucks titanium that you're not supposed to smack a cat's paw with. I prefer the feel of a wood handle, but (except for the Douglas design) they break to easily to be practical. You can yank and reef on the FS999ML's fiberglass handle all day, and it's the nicest feeling non-wood handle I've used. The hammer's weight, balance and feel is near perfect. Not much else to say. Unless you already know your favorite hammer is something else, this is the one to get. Peace.

This hammmer is nothing fancy but the 999 series has been around for along time- tried, tested and proven. I just recently bought this hammer and have been using it on a framing project and I must say that it is well balanced and solid. I've stopped using steel hammers for framing since they dont have the balance of wood or fiberglass and the shock absorbtion is not as good. I dislike wood because I feel like I have to be careful with them or they might break. This vaughan 20 oz is solid and I swing it with confidence knowing that it is going to hold up to whatever I put it through. Not only is it tough but it is so well balance that I feel that I have complete control and precision when I swing it. I dislike club hammers(big bulky framers with huge heads) because I feel like I'm using a sledge to pound a tiny nail. Im a craftsman, I own my own business, and when I build I'm tactical. This hammer is the best framing hammer I have used and in my twelve years of construction experience, I tried alot of hammers (steel, titanium, and fiberglass) and this framing hammer I love. For around 24 dollars that's hard to beat. I think all those other hi-tec hammers with fancy designs is just a marketing gimmic. This vaughan is basic, a true design that hasn't needed to be changed because it works. If your a serious builder and not a hack or a butcher, buy this hammer.
