If you're one of the millions that responded to "Jessie's Girl" and Rick Springfield's subsequent wave of Top 40 hits in the 80's, you'll find much to love in the release. Think you've already heard it all? Thirteen tracks that will delight even the most jaded fan. The liner notes include this note from Rick:"Jeff Silverman joined my first real touring band in 1976 as a guitar player. We continued as friends and as Jeff's production and recording talents grew, I would go to his studio when I wanted to record some really great sounding demos. We also wrote quite a few songs together, which was something I hadn't done with another musician before. The Songs in this CD are the result of long hours slaving over a hot studio console in Jeff's studio and have never been released like this before. Some are demos of songs I later recorded for albums and some are experiments in writing, production and singing ("How high CAN I actually sing?") and I think all of them have merit. I hope you listen and agree. -RS" If you're a fan, this is unmissable! If you think you're not a fan, you'll probably be surprised by many of the tracks on this compilation.

"From The Vault" is just what it claims to be, demos and rough mixes. There's a lot of music on the cd, not all of it is very good but none of it is bad either. The finest track featured here is 'My Depression', which was originally on Springfield's greatest album, 2004's Shock Denial Anger Acceptance, and this version easily tops it. I guarantee any real Springfield fan will love this cut. And that's, of course, who this release is for: the serious fans. People interested in checking out his music beyond the early 1980's hits should look elsewhere, and almost definitely will considering the price. But they'll eventually want this. Because when Springfield's good, he really can be one of the best, and "From The Vault" does have several very good tracks that outweigh the boring and/or middling ones.

The music on this CD was just so-so. Not bad, but not great either.
