The intended purpose for this box is to send to college with my son who might, if he thinks of it, lock up his iPod, extra cash, and controlled substance medication. The box itself locks. That may be adequate. As you can see in the photo, the box is also intended to be lockable to furniture by use of a standard computer-locking cable. In fact, there is a small hole in the side for that purpose. Unfortunately, the thickness of the box wall is such that the locking mechanism of the computer cable cannot be inserted deeply enough to allow it to expand, and therefore lock into place. Hence, the locking teeth remain unexpanded and the lock can be pulled right back out. (note: the computer cable lock tested works just fine on the 2 different Toshiba laptops and the 2 models of MacBook on which I tested it.) Otherwise, the box and lock seem a bit flimsy, somewhat like a child's toy suitcase. Eh.

edit: I did manage to attach this box to a cable by drilling the hole slightly bigger, inserting an i-bolt, eye out/locking nut in, then inserting a cable with a loop at each end through the eye. Thus it can be secured to furniture with a small combination lock. This does not exempt the silly box from claiming to work with a standard computer cable lock. Make no mistake--it does not.

This product advertises the following: "Tether with any standard laptop security cable". Much like another reviewer ("Emily Gillespie Clement") already reported, this is false. I received the product, and tried tethering it with a standard Kensington laptop cable. I spent 10 minutes trying, and I was unable to tether this product. Although the hole looks about the right size, it does not work. I think amazon should look into this matter and remove the claim that this product can be tethered.

For being a cheap lock box, it does its job well, although it can be finicky sometimes to remove the laptop lock down cable to tie it down and the 3 number combo spinners only like to go one direction with ease. Works great for a college student though!

Easy to use but very flimsy- made of cardboard basically. Did not hold up very well for very long. Probably not worth $20

Not an exceptional product... its made of wood basically covered in plastic.. i wouldn't recommend ACTUALLY using it to store valuables, since you can easily break it. ALso, I was under the impression it came with the "leash" to attach it to something permanently or whatever, but it didnt come with the box. Kind of misleading, since the pic shows it with the security "leash"
