4.0 out of 5 stars Great power supply, March 12, 2009
This review is from: Vector Power Rechargeable Center (Emergency power station) with NOAA Weather Alert FM/AM Radio (Electronics)
I paid much more for my unit at a local store. I have used mine for several years now and it still holds a charge. It is very heavy which I believe is due to the weight of the battery inside. Feels like I'm carrying around a motorcycle battery or small car battery. At any rate I've used this during power outages to run my DSL modem and laptop, lights and to recharge cell phones. I am a photographer and also use this to power my fluorescent light systems, strobes, printers, etc. where there is no power outlet. The unit will only last a few hours with high drain devices, so use it sparingly. If you only use it for sporadic needs, it is an incredible resource. The radio and weather alert is very good too, as is the alarm clock. VERY durable case and the crash bars really support the unit, not just for show. If you try to plug in something with too high a power drain, the unit will shut down (safety feature). Not for heaters or other high-drain devices. This is NOT a power source to keep your house up and running in an outage. But it is a very reliable source of power for those small and medium needs that become BIG needs in a power outage or where you don't have an outlet. If this had a jumpstart option it would be perfect.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great unit, but be careful of how long it has been sitting!, March 14, 2010

This review is from: Vector Power Rechargeable Center (Emergency power station) with NOAA Weather Alert FM/AM Radio (Electronics)
Length:: 5:05 Mins

This video is a simple demo of the unit and also explains possible actions to take if it has been sitting too long. I had problems with both the main unit and the flashlight, because they had been sitting since 2006. The unit wasn't as bad and only required a special battery charger and a few short cycles to get it back to normal. The hand crank flashlight on the other hand had to have it's 2032 lithium battery replaced ($3) which was pretty simple to do. The entire unit works as it should now and I have found it to be quite powerful and useful. It is quite easy to service, just a recharge monthly when in storage and when the time comes, battery replacement will be easy. I probably would have rated the product lower, but it gave me the chance to finally test out my special battery equipment. The unit lives up to the manufactures claims after the battery is properly reconditioned.

P.S. The special battery charger I used was the stanley 8 amp battery charger, which I reviewed a while back. It has fully recovered the battery in this device and many others, thanks to pulse charging in the float charge mode (desulphation of battery). I have inserted the product link below!

1.0 out of 5 stars trash, trash, trash and more trash, January 9, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Vector Power Rechargeable Center (Emergency power station) with NOAA Weather Alert FM/AM Radio (Electronics)
Where do I begin, the radio did not work, the USB did not work, the 110 volt outlet did not work. the crank light did not work. I took the unit to a dealer that is a part of the Vector company. They said It was trash and had several in the back that had been returned, and they were trash. You will be returning this unit if you buy It. *****Warning***** Find the nearest trash dumpster and trash It or get your money back.
