5.0 out of 5 stars Kindle Fire set to low sensitivity and this game rocks! December 5, 2011
Verified Purchase
At first, I thought the controls were twitchy and gave up in frustration. I tried again and thought it sucked. So I find the sensitivity and try a few settings and found that reducing it to two or three solves the issues I was having and now it steers great. This game looks and plays amazing on the Fire. It may be one of the best. Was well worth the PRICE!

4.0 out of 5 stars Glitches apparently fixed for Kindle Fire December 7, 2013
Verified Purchase
I read several reviews stating the controls don't work on the Kindle but it appears the developers have addressed this issue. I had no problems (other than my "mom lack of video game skills") in playing the game.
It is a well-designed racing game. Instead of the typical track, you get to race on water in some very fast boats. I liked the overall designed of the game and the look. You can unlock special boats with better racing abilities. You can also earn achievements for various skills, and can compete in the leaderboard on Game Circle.

Personally, I don't care for this sharing of scores since it opens up network sockets that can leave your device open to other files also being downloaded (for example, your personal info and contacts, possibly our passwords), but this particular game does not seem to be set up to do any of that. I did not get any virus messages in the download. However, since I don't like this open exchange, potentially without my permission or knowledge, in the background, I dropped a star.

The game itself, though, is very fun. I probably won't play it much since I crash... a lot.... but my sons will love it. They will enjoy competing against each other and trying to get all the achievements completed, while unlocking the boats.

Overall, definitely worth the FAOTD download.

5.0 out of 5 stars Splashy! December 3, 2011
Verified Purchase
15 years ago, you could have paid $70 for a game like this on the Nintendo 64. They made a sequel 10 years ago on the Gamecube for $50. Last year, Vector Unit (this developer) did a neat sequel to Hydro Thunder for the xbox 360, which cost $15. So it's fitting that we have a $3 homage that downloaded to Android in about 30 seconds. The game is flashy and fun on the Kindle Fire, running at full speed with impressive water physics and controls. Did anyone expect the Kindle Fire to have smoother graphical performance when running 3d games than displaying and scrolling text and websites? Another pleasant surprise!

This game was downloaded to my kindle fire by my son. He loves it. He is 7 years old and loves to race the jet skis. I have to say it has some pretty good graphics.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 3D Racing Game November 28, 2012
Verified Purchase
Riptide GP is a professionally made 3D racing game with excellent graphics, sound, and controls. I like that it's on water instead of land. I think it has great replay value, and it's easy to just pick up and play for brief bursts. Best of all, it's fun for all ages.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great graphics and water physics December 7, 2013
By Rocman

Riptide GP is a standard tilt-to-steer racing game with the major difference being the water front setting. The graphics and the wave physic model are the main attractions. Gotta say - very impressive. On the HTC One, the great graphics looks buttery smooth at default setting. When I maxed it out under the settings menu, the game looked even better and sharper, although I do detect a very slightly drop in overall framerate. The water physics seems pretty realistic and does add to the gameplay.

The game does include Flurry Analytics, for those of you who care about it.

Overall Riptide GP is definitely an entertaining game - very flashy and great for showing off the graphics of the latest tablet or phone. But after playing about 5 to 10 minutes, I do find myself a little bored as the shock and awe from the graphics start to wear off. For some reason, it's not as addictive as I first thought. But that might be a blessing in disguise, as the game does work your phone's CPU and graphics processors pretty hard and will suck up battery quickly if you're not mindful!

Definitely worth checking out as the free app of the day.
