An excellent, traditionally based introduction,
By
This review is from: Vedanta Treatise The Eternities (Paperback)
Swami Parthasarathy has written a number of books, including one on the Gita, one on Shankara's Atmabodha and commentaries on several of the Upanishads. The Vedanta Treatise was his attempt to summarize Vedanta from his readings of the classical texts and from his studies with his own guru, Swami Chinmayananda. He still travels the world giving lectures on the Gita and also runs a school in Bombay, which provides a three-year residential course on Vedanta. An excellent introductory book, it tends to be more practical than theoretical, emphasizing bhakti and karma yoga aspects more than those of j~nAna. This is in line with the quotation on all of his cassettes that "The Bhagavad Gita is a technique, a skill for dynamic living, not a retirement plan".Dennis Waite, author of Back to the Truth: 5000 years of Advaita

This book is the first book I have read that contains the entire material needed for the internal development of a human being. It explains the ancient philosophical system of Vedanta in a sequential, logical manner that any person, whether from the east or west, would find immensely beneficial and practical. A modern spiritual masterpiece

Facts of life,
By
This review is from: Vedanta Treatise The Eternities (Paperback)
The author has managed to capture the essence of philosophy in one easy to read book. I got a much better understanding of my nature, how to relate to others and the path to self development. Basic facts of life are presented in a methodical manner. Like desires, attachments, love, concentration, success, and subtler themes like law of karma, illusions and the concept of god. You don't need to have any previous understanding of philosophy to read this book. Especially recommended for the youth, thinkers & enquirers.

Vedanta,
By
This review is from: Vedanta Treatise The Eternities (Paperback)
I found this book to be a clear and logical explanation of the the most basic questions of human existence. Written in simple and easily understandable language, this book appeals to all types of readers. For the casual browser, it is an introduction to the fundamentals of philosophy (Who am I? what is the purpose of life? How should I live my life? etc). For a serious student of philosophy, it explains the subtle nuances of thinking that are the essence of Indian philosophy (the theory of causation, the four yogas, states of consciousness etc). For a seeker, it provides a window through which we can glimpse the road to self realization. Swami Parthasarathy has distilled the knowledge of an ancient civilization to make it accessible to the average person and relevant to the world we live in. Vedanta Treatise is a handbook for day-to-day life which explains the mystical precepts that govern human existence and provides practical knowledge to achieve success in the present.

This book is fantastic. If you are interested in philosophy I highly recommend this book, and even if you have no interest in philosophy I still recommend this book. This book is perfect for all independent thinkers who ask questions about themselves, the world, and their place in it. I could go on and on about how much this book has impacted me but it will suffice to say that it is the greatest book I have ever read. This book is about understanding reality and its importance as a guide to life.

Profound,

I have been studying Vedanta for about a year now and have found Parthasarathy's work to be particularly inspiring. This book has many layers. It is simultaneously an excellent introduction, but there is profound depth in those words - in each sentence. I hope they come out with a Kindle version as well - because this is a book that I'd like to carry with me and reference.Note that this is not a book about religion but rather a gateway in equipping us to develop and use our intellects, to decide and experience for ourselves the wisdom discerned and passed on by ancient sages. I highly recommend this to anyone that is questioning what is humanity, what is consciousness, and what is the purpose of life.

Systematic Approach,
By Nicholas Hansinger "nicolai" (Detroit, MI) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Vedanta Treatise The Eternities (Paperback)
This book has it all! It systematically takes the reader from the most basic knowledge of what makes a human being all the way to the end of knowledge; Vedanta!Unlike any other spiritual text I've ever read, and there have been MANY, this is the only one that is truly systematic and progressive. It is incredibly clear. Swami Parthasarathy is brilliant. He has a way of taking the most subtle abstract knowledge and making it incredibly practical. It is tempting to read the book though and say "I've heard this before. I got it." But the beauty of this text is the layers upon layers of depth. Do yourself a favor and take each and every sentence and paragraph and break it down. Really study it in the truest sense of the word, and it will change your life. This is a true gift to Humanity!

Open your mind. Open your true Self....,
By Pat (Thailand; USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Vedanta Treatise The Eternities (Paperback)
A. Parthasarathy's Vedanta Treatise has to be the best book ever written on the Self for the Self. It is a great introduction to Vedanta. A practical guide that really does a great job putting the concept of God in its proper place which is in YOU. Swami Parthasarathy writes in a style that is very easy to comprehend.I read this book over a course of two days and found it difficult to put down. The insights that appear throughout the book are both clear and lucid. I am looking forward to rereading it soon. This book is written for people from all walks of life and not limited to a select "chosen" few. This is truly a gem of a book.

A must read for anyone interested in Vedanta,
By Wheels "Wheels" (CT, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Vedanta Treatise The Eternities (Paperback)
A clear well thought out logical approach to understanding the fundamentals and "truth" that is Vedanta (a far cry from the misunderstood, ritualistic approach that seems to be the norm of today). This book has something for everyone - young and old. Those who are just curious about Vedanta and those that have been studying it for years. Swami Parthasarathy does something that I have seen very few do - continuous questioning of accepted norms until a logical conclusion is found. He uses logical, scientific approaches to come up with conclusions, just as any one would in thier high school chemistry or physics class. A must read if you are at all interested in this topic.
