5.0 out of 5 stars Wow unbelievably reflective and sturdy!
Customer Video Review     Length:: 0:47 Mins
I saw Vedante's leash on Denver's NBC news and purchased a collar and leash. They are way more reflective than anything I've seen before. Most of the other products only reflect 200-600 feet.
In addition they are very fashionable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Collar, May 16, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a nice reflective collar, without being too bright. The color is similar to the type of reflective material that people wear at night when they're walking/biking. I like the way that the breakaway feature works; the two parts are connected by an elastic band (instead of a breakaway clip that you use to connect the collar around the cat's neck). I think that feature makes it more durable than the other breakaway collars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful collar, March 26, 2008

The collar does just as it suggests, reflects from very very far away. The collar fit both my petite cat and my large cat. It reflects our hallway light and any light from outside. It made my cat highly visible from yards away. Love this collar.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Break Away Collar Ever, July 24, 2010

Ansel uses a Cat Mate Elite Super Selective Cat Flap to come and go as he pleases. The ID tags are $15.00 a piece to replace, if he loses his cat collar, which he did three times before I found this break away collar. This is a well made, sturdy, durable, and reflective collar. It's super long to fit around a medium size dog, if necessary. I cut the extra length off and shaved the edges of the end because the material is stiff, but not too stiff to wrap around his neck comfortably. It hasn't created any bald rings around his neck either. Ansel is a big tom cat who scratches his collar with his hind legs, gets into numerous cat fights (despite being neutered), rubs against every tree, shrub, fence post, and structure he comes across, and rolls around in dirt, gravel and sidewalk. After 6 months, it still looks brand new, and the elastic band is still tight. I wouldn't buy any other collar. This is the best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty and Reflective - very nice Christmas Cat Collar, November 30, 2008
The collar reflects in Red at Night! Fun and adds safety while looking pretty cool both in the daylight and reflecting at night. Vedante has 3 colors, Red, Gold and Silver. If you want holiday spirit ... I recommend this one or the gold version. If you want extreme night safey, I recommend the silver since it is EXTREMELY reflective.

1.0 out of 5 stars Desperately needs a breakaway clasp, November 12, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Updated 10/4/11:

I will never use a Vedante collar again! The cat wearing the lone remaining Vedante somehow got his leg through the collar, so the collar was tight and digging painfully into his underarm. The elastic hadn't released after who knows how many hours. When I ran up to help him, I didn't realize which collar it was at first. I grabbed the collar with two hands on opposite sides and pulled apart hard, expecting the collar to breakaway. It didn't and I pulled again quite hard. It still didn't release! Finally I realized it was the Vedante and pulled right on the elastic to break it. It still didn't break and I had to unbuckle it to get it off him. I cut it in half and threw it away. So, one Vedante collar's elastic broke within a week, and one was dangerously strong. This collar could have seriously hurt my kitty.

I recommend Premier Glo Kitty Collar, COLORS: Glo Neo, which both reflects and glows in the dark. I also like Lazer Brite Collar Color: Red. Be sure to add an id tag, turned around so the back side (made reflective with 3M 03458C Scotchlite Red 1" x 36" Reflective Tape) is showing on your cat's chest. The big red reflective dot will be very visible (day or night) and lets people know it is an "owned" cat.

Original review (3 star rating)

I have numerous cats that go outdoors in a very large fenced yard. Over the last 10 years, I think I have bought several of every type of reflective collar on the market. The biggest downside for all reflective collars is that they are only visible from the side, and hard to see from any angle on a medium- or long-haired cat. For optimum safety so the pet can be seen from the front, add a reflective nametag. Some pet tags come with a reflective sticker and these generally work well.

I bought three of the Vedante collars: silver, gold, and red. They were flexible, not stiff. They look nice and reflect well, much better than the cloth collars with a rubbery reflective strip, or those with little reflective designs. But a Vedante collar is significantly more expensive. A huge fault is that it has a non-breakable buckle (metal tongue that goes through a hole) -- what breaks away is basically a rubber band. Once that breaks, you can't replace it. If they had the standard breakaway buckle, the collar would be reusable. When cats tussle or go through underbrush, collars often need to breakaway. I had one break within the week. : On the plus side, I like the glow in the dark tag while the cats are indoors so you don't accidentally step on one during the night.

In addition to putting a regular breakaway buckle instead of relying on a stupid rubber band, the manufacturer could make the collar even better by putting a reflective sticker on the back of the glow-in-the-dark tag so you could choose which you want (glow or reflect).

Will I buy more Vedante collars? No. They are not that much more reflective than the Premier Glo Kitty Collar, COLORS: Glo Neo collars or the Whisker City 'reflective tape' collars (Petsmart). Both of those are half the price and have a breakaway clip/buckle so they're reusable. Too bad I can't find the Safecat plastic fully-reflective collars for sale any more -- those were the most visible/durable overall that I've found, and only cost about $6.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love the way it sparkles, January 23, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I posted a couple pictures in the customer images section of how this looks on our long haired Turkish Van cat. When the sun hits the collar it sparkles as if it had a diamond coating underneath a plastic layer. This is a stiff collar and overall looks more luxurious than the average collar also because of the shiny metal buttons and buckle. The glow in the dark nametag floats to the side of the neck from the weight of our primary metal engraved nametag, so they both end up in positions that are more visible.

The reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 is because the collar is held together by an elastic string tied with a knot, and this will come apart or break after a few months/years. I improved this by using a piece of bead/jewelry string (a strong, transparent & stretchy string from the craft store) and tied a second loop to connect the collar ends. This way it will still stretch but it will last much longer. It's easy to fix in this manner, if needed.

The tag is what glows, not the collar. The tag is very visible, even though it is small in size. Odd at times to see a glow green moving object..then I realize it is my cat...who is mostly black..It actually helps me adjust to the darkness when I am with him...
