3.0 out of 5 stars A little disappointing
The author writes well, but I found that he had simplified Vedanta too much. Often it seemed like he was elaborating and writing his own philosophy rather than sticking to the Vedantic writings. I have no doubt he is very knowledgeable - this just didn't turn out to be the book I was hoping for - which was one I could recommend to others who are interested in learning...

This review is from: Vedantic Meditation: Lighting the Flame of Awareness (Paperback)
A continual source of inspiration and practical guidance, this slim volume will serve the reader in its clear approach to "westernizing" ancient Vedic science. An amazing gift by a recognized master (both in the east and west), the reader making recurring visits to its pages will be rewarded with renewed insights and simple, pointed phrasing highlighting the highest potential of the human experience in simple, down-to-earth language. Although steeped in a philosophy over 5000 years old, these words are never staid or dogmatic. Rather the overall purpose is experential and warmly invites the reader's participation. It's delightful - and it's cheap!

5.0 out of 5 stars A superb book, a guide to the perplexed!!, October 20, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Vedantic Meditation: Lighting the Flame of Awareness (Paperback)
This is one of Frawley's best books. It introduces Vedantic meditation (the mother of all meditations) to the reader. It presents various aspects of the Vedic message and shows how it can help each one of us find our creative potential! Go and buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars important text for spiritual and psychological healing, November 29, 2008
This review is from: Vedantic Meditation: Lighting the Flame of Awareness (Paperback)
Vedantic Meditation is a foundational text for those searching for true "yoga therapy". This consise and cogent text cuts through many misconceptions and illuminates the path to a deeper understanding of the mind and meditation. Deeply inspired by the sage Ramana Maharshi, Frawley carries on the tradition of Ramana and Ganapati Muni pointing the reader toward personal transformation as the true catalyst for all psychological and spiritual healing. I highly recommend this text to all true spiritual seekers and to those approaching Yoga or meditation for the first time.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Small Book Of Wisdom..Great Primer.., July 13, 2006

This review is from: Vedantic Meditation: Lighting the Flame of Awareness (Paperback)
Sincere in tone, lucid in style, Dr Frawley's book on Veda is a wonderful study on the subject for the new comer and a book that is concise in outlining concepts for further study and introspection for those that are more familiar.
Of particular note is the clarity of the presentation in drawing distinctions between Buddhism and Veda (as well as similarities),explaining key points made by great individuals such as Ramana Maharshi,Krishnamurti and others, delving into key psychological concepts allowing one to see how Jung was readily influenced by these teachings, where a Freud would not be, and while Adler's disbelief in ego would allow for a "guiding fiction" jiving well with the eternal Self if taken either as a reality or an idea. Social interest and harmony with ALL remains the goal, This Is It.
Not to fall into illusion which can be labelled neurosis, bad faith or inauthenticity is a worthwhile pursuit no matter how it is classified.A wonderful introduction and a sincere work.

1.0 out of 5 stars Supermarket Treatment - A Mockery of the Ancients, February 7, 2005
By
Lee Barney (LA, California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Vedantic Meditation: Lighting the Flame of Awareness (Paperback)

If you are hoping to learn more about meditation than you are better off knowing what you already know rather than reading this book. The utter banality of it is bound to make your mind squirm as you read through mindless jargon every newager is privy to.

I'm not sure how this guy gets away with writing the same stuff over and over again under different titles.

It is very clear from reading the text that the author has no direct experience of higher states of meditational awareness. It's like someone writing a book on quantum physics without having any understanding of basic physics.

The whole thing is akin to the age old crookery which asks for your pennies giving nothing in return.

This book like many others by the author, trivializes ancient Vedic culture and civilization. Only a Westerner or Punjabi (Deepak Chopra !! ) could have done it. As long as masses in their kindergarten state fail to exercise their discrimination they are bound to get duped by these small time crooks.
