Judge it for what it is,

The previous reviewer faults this book for its failure to bring the spirituality of the Vedas to life for the reader. However, such a failure is hardly surprising, given that it is not in any way the intent or focus of the book. This is an *academic* study of the Vedas and the culture that created them, and of the differences between original Vedism and modern Hinduism. It is true that the author's Western bias is sometimes over-apparent, but the fact remains that this is work addresses a subject that usually gets short shrift in other books on Hinduism.
