5.0 out of 5 stars WHAT A BOX SET SHOULD BE....., September 14, 2007

This review is from: Vee-Jay: Celebrating 40 Years Of Classic Hits 1953-1993 (Audio CD)
This Vee-Jay box set label overview is an excellent buy.It features all their major artists and skips the "filler" that a lot of label box sets offer as so called rare tracks....Dee Clark, the Spaniels,John Lee Hooker, all contribute to ths fine collection to celebrate Vee-Jays history.

4.0 out of 5 stars First V J Box Available, September 19, 2011

This review is from: Vee-Jay: Celebrating 40 Years Of Classic Hits 1953-1993 (Audio CD)
Just started listening to this particular version and noted a strange problem with a well known track.

The "Shoop Shoop Song" has a long defective fade out during the track.
Likely this was an accident made during CD prep on a workstation while adding the fade out.
Overall the sound quality is variable due to various source material and the mastering enginneer chose to leave a lot of the various e q's alone as opposed to making all cuts equal.
This may not be a bad idea while listening to cuts individually.
However listening in succession will make you run for your bass and treble controls.
I havent heard the Shout Factory version or the UK import box but I have VJ promo CDs from the same period as this box (1990's) that are mastered quite differently and the Shoop Shoop Song is just fine on those.
The song selection was good although not quite as wide as the promo CD's which also added more of the Jazz side of VJ. Also included is a good book 12 inch full of stories and pics.
