This book overall doesn't teach you how to make the most out of vegetables or anything. It's a lot of just substitution. Substitute fake chicken, fake beef, no-meat chicken/beef better than bullion and vegan butter. It just ends up being a lot of off the shelf substitutes rather than teaching you how to build flavors and combinations of food to create good food.

I saw this book in passing at Target, and after flipping through it a while, I decided to buy it. I've been a vegetarian for few years, but l still search for interesting ways in which to cook vegetables, and miss some of the tastes I used to enjoy. I have tried one recipe thus far - the Southern Fried Chick'n - and it was divine. That it tasted like real fried chicken blew me away. Even my carnivorous spouse loved it. Cannot wait to make more recipes from this great book!

I am soooooo glad I looked at this in the library before I spent any money on it. The recipes are all old and are found in many other vegan cookbooks. The author uses packaged supermarket faux meats to make a number of dishes. It's easy enough for a non-chef to buy a package of grain "chicken" and add a sauce. I expect some originality in a cookbook.

I was taken in by clever marketing on this one, falling for the title and celebrity endorsement. Because my hunter friend is getting a little tired of my tried-and-true meatless recipes, I thought I'd find some inspiration here for things to make him. Not so. If you've done any research or vegan cooking, you've already learned the introductory concepts in this book, such as typical items to stock in your pantry and how to substitute non-meat proteins in recipes. There are no secrets to make vegan food taste "meaty" as the title implies. Save your money and use Google to search for vegan recipes and be guided by the reviews of people who've tried them - it's free.

Some innovative recipes. I did like the pictures and ideas. I did find most meals are pretty time consuming, so if you do not have a lot of time not idea. Some suggestions of cheese include specific brands that I do not personally like. Other food items incorporate alternative meat substitutes, which I feel I can come up with recipes like this on my own. I would have liked to see more soy free alternatives or cooking with fresh vegetables in exchange for soy product or processed items.

I was a bit disappointed with this book. Only a few recipes even look like they are worth trying. The one recipe that I love is the red beans and rice. My carnivore husband loved it and then requested I add shrimp to his and use the vegan spicy sausage (because the recipe uses apple vegan sausage which I also think is weird). Oh well its a pretty decent book I just am looking for something different.

I am not a vegan or vegetarian, I was just looking for some more healthy recipes to add to my repertoire, and this book is fantastic. I gave it to all of my co workers for Christmas, and most have already made recipes they love. Easy to do, inexpensive, and super healthy. The black bean soup is ridiculous! It's now my kids favorite soup!

I absolutely LOVE this book. We have tried almost every recipe on here and we haven't found one that has been bad. My favorite is the banana pancakes. Super delicious and full of protein. The recipes are easy and fun to do. I would definitely recommend this book.
