Vegan Family Favorites: Tasty And Satisfying Recipes Even Your Kids Will Love,
By
This review is from: Vegan Family Favorites: Tasty And Satisfying Recipes Even Your Kids Will Love (Paperback)
My daughter and I have food allergies, my husband has health issues that are effected by foods. We are new to the Vegan world and I have been having a hard time finding recipes that are healthy, easy to make, and taste good. This book has helped me do all of these things. I love this book. I have tried a few of the recipes. My family has loved everything I have made. I usually buy cookbooks thinking they will be a help and they end up on a shelf. This one has not been put away since I got it. I can't wait to try more of the recipes in this book.

quick and easy family meals,
By
This review is from: Vegan Family Favorites: Tasty And Satisfying Recipes Even Your Kids Will Love (Paperback)
For a busy parent wanting to make vegan meals, this book can't be beat. The recipes are ultra quick and easy and the ingredients can be found in most supermarkets. I've tried the Portobello Mushroom Sandwich, Red Lentil Soup, Carrot-Potato Pancakes, Giant Oatmeal Cookies, Sweet Potato Curry, Winter Vegetable Chowder, and Granola. Every recipe worked and my family liked them all.
It's obvious these are real recipes, used by real families. This is not gourmet cooking but practical meals that you can make in a hurry and that your kids will eat.

A little disappointing...,

I found this book a little disappointing. There are a lot of recipes in this book that call for vegan cheese. My kids don't like vegan cheese. I'm trying to find more creative recipes that do not depend on meat substitutes. One funny thing, there is actually a recipe for a whole carrot placed on a hot dog bun as a substitute hot dog! That is what people who make fun of vegetarians imagine we are feeding our kids every night! I would recommend "Vegan with a Vegeance" over this book.

Simple Vegan Cooking!,

This review is from: Vegan Family Favorites: Tasty And Satisfying Recipes Even Your Kids Will Love (Paperback)
Don't miss out on this simple vegan cookbook. Even if you have cookbooks lined up in your kitchen this one is a must have! The recipes are simple and the ingredients are common ones that you have in your pantry.
So far I have made Blueberry Tapioca Pudding which is delicately sweetened (I used Agave Nectar) and has the antioxidant power of Blueberry and the creamy tapioca taste to savour. A main dish that you will keep making is the Zuchinni Eggplant Lasagne that is easy and quick to serve family and friends. This is a great dish to get the kids to eat their veggies! For desert the vegan butter tarts are the best and putting them on a tray with the chocolate peanut butter dipped pretzels with simply WOW your famiy again! Don't forget breakfast fare as there is plent of it. Sticky Banana loaf is sweet and moist and served with a scoop of Vanilla Rice Dream it is again another great desert treat! This is absolutely a Vegan cookbook you do not want to miss out on and just like the title says these are "receipes even your kids will love"! Ontario, Canada

This book is very disappointing. It is mostly recipes with meat substitutes. They are standard fare recipes, with vegan cheese substituted, or similar substitutions that I don't need a cookbook to figure out. There is even a "recipe" that suggests putting a cooked carrot in a hot dog bun as a hot dog substitute. Ridiculus. Now that I have found the best vegan cookbook, "Vegan with Vengeance," I am throwing this one away.

I am really underwhelmed by this cookbook.,

The recipes in this cookbook are nearly useless. You don't need a recipe for half the items in here! Sometimes they're as simple as "put peanut butter on tortilla, add jelly, roll up" (I don't have the cookbook in front of me, so I could be slightly off, but the idea is the same). You don't need a recipe for that, you need common sense! And a lot of the recipes just use vegan version of omni foods. I don't need a recipe to tell me that to make a sandwich, I can add vegan fake turkey to a piece of bread and add vegan mayo. Whoa! Who would've thought? Now, let me say that I don't have kids, and I hear kids can be picky eaters, so maybe some of these recipes are really intended just to get kids interested--that is why I did 2 stars, not 1. However, like I said, most of these recipes can be achieved with a little bit of common sense and more than 5 minutes experience in the kitchen. I'm going to say skip this one. Instead, I would recommend The Vegan Table. I think most of those recipes are very simple and easy to make. However, I cannot attest to how kids would react to them. Also, [...] is a great website that has some very simple vegan recipes, and I'm sure you could find some kid-friendly recipes on there, too.

Great go-to cookbook! You'll actually use it,

I checked this out from my local library, and when I realized I'd bookmarked at least 20 recipes that I wanted to try, it was time to suck it up and buy a copy for myself! I've tried a bunch of the dishes and yes, my young kids have gladly eaten them. Wide variety of options (most with common, whole-food ingredients you actually have on hand) and some fresh recipe ideas beyond the common vegan/vegetarian recipes, because it's a collection of submitted recipes. Rest assured, however, that they've been tested and proven edible by the author, who also includes a bunch of her own yummy creations. I'm a big cookbook junkie and this is one of my favorites for sure.

I've made several of the recipes in this book and I haven't found one yet that I don't like. In particular, my family and I love the Veggies and Dumplings. It has become a regular feature on our table.
