5.0 out of 5 stars Gelatin-free multi, February 12, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Vegan Multivitamin w/o Iron 90 Tablets (Health and Beauty)
I was on the search for a gelatin-free multivitamin and I found it. I've been taking this vitamin for a few weeks now. I haven't been nauseous once like I would get when I'd take Centrum or other multis. I'm a vegetarian and it's not always easy finding foods/vitamins without some weird animal product in them. I recommend this for anyone needing some nutrients you may be lacking from real food.

I truly appreciate a once-a-day vitamin that's not too huge, and provides me with the necessary vitamins and minterals I need. Deva vitamins qualify on all counts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product, March 15, 2009
This review is from: Vegan Multivitamin w/o Iron 90 Tablets (Health and Beauty)
I'm extremely happy with this multivitamin. I used to take a multivitamin plus a B12 supplement every morning. I would often times get very bad stomach cramps and nausea, even when taking them with food. This is the best deal I have found on a multi that is made specifically for vegans/vegetarians, complete with a big boost of vitamin B. I am also able to take this on an empty stomach with NO nausea and NO stomach ache. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Vegan Vitamin at a great price, January 15, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
My daughter will not take any vitamin except a truly vegan one, and the prices on some of them are quite high. I always turn to Amazon for my products, and this one checked out when I researched it other places. I think it's sad that the other reviewer gave it just one star if the shipper destroyed the package, because you are supposed to rate the product. And the product has worked great for my daughter. She desperately needed the iron, and she takes these faithfully.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I was looking for, December 4, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Vegan Multivitamin w/o Iron 90 Tablets (Health and Beauty)
Like others I came to this multivitamin while searching for a gelatin-free alternative to mainstream brands. Of course, being a vegan or a vegetarian means having special dietary considerations, so it was important to not sacrifice nutrient content in my multivitamin. I thought it would make the most sense to look for a supplement specifically marketed for vegans, as this would satisfy my demands for both the ingredients and nutritional content.

As far as the ingredients go, here's what it says on the bottle:

"This product does NOT contain animal products, derivatives or byproducts. 100% VEGETARIAN, VEGAN. This product is Certified Vegan by the Vegan Society."

And then later, if this is useful to you:

"Free of GMOs, yeast, wheat, gluten, corn, dairy, egg, sugar, preservatives, dyes, sodium, animal products or derivatives."

This can hardly be more straightforward. You can find this product and all of its nutritional information on the Deva Nutrition website. For those of you buying from "Sullivan Vitamins & Irish Shop" on Amazon Marketplace without a product picture (I would add one if I had a camera worth taking pictures with), this is the version that clearly states "with Greens" on the front label. Allergies to these veggies are rare, and they come in a very small concentration, but in case you have severe food allergies these are:

"Green food / Vegetable / Herbal Blend: 80 mg
Spirulina (microalgae), Alfalfa (leaf), Ashwagandha (root), Broccoli (flower), Carrot (root), Chamomile (leaf), Chlorella (broken-cell microalgae), Cinnamon (bark), Dandelion (root), Ginger (root), Parsley (leaf), Rose Hips (fruit), Siberian Ginseng (root), Spinach (leaf)."

(Note that these differ slightly from the ingredients found on the Deva Nutrition website; all other nutritional content at the time of this review was consistent with that on the bottle I received.)

How does this supplement stack up against your current supplement? You'll have to see for yourself. In my experience it contains more of most nutrients, and it's satisfactory for most vegan nutritional requirements unless you have an absorption problem or some kind of anemia. Just to touch on a few:

Vitamin B12 - 1666% DV
Vitamin C - 250% DV
Vitamin D2 - 100% DV
Calcium - 10% DV
Iron - 100% DV (there is also a version of this product available containing no iron)
Iodine - 100% DV
Magnesium - 10% DV
Zinc - 73% DV
Copper - 10% DV

Pretty good, unless you're needing a little extra calcium or magnesium in your diet. In my case, my previous supplement contained only slightly more of those nutrients. Deva Nutrition also makes a supplement containing these minerals that you may choose to take in addition to this product. It contains 100% DV of calcium, magnesium, vitamin D2, Zinc, Vitamin C, 25% DV of copper and 1 mg boron. I'm not a nutritionist, so I can hardly offer advice about taking these products together; just know that it exists if you're unsatisfied with the cal/mag content of this supplement.

Okay, the above should make or break the product for you; now for some nitpicky details that you might like to know.

These tablets are big. Not gargantuan, but big. They're thick, they're chunky. I had no problem swallowing these, but if you typically have problems swallowing some of the larger vitamins out there you might want to try the tiny tablets alternative, which I have not tried and therefore cannot vouch for and, one should note, contains less of most nutrients and nearly no iron. The large tablets are probably not suitable for children, so you might consider the tiny tablets (their lower iron content might be considered a plus in that case, too), though I might add that I have no experience buying multivitamin supplements for children, so if you're looking for a vegan supplement with that in mind you really should look for something made for that purpose.

Many people are not particularly fond of the taste of most supplements, myself included. If you've ever accidentally chewed a non-chewable multivitamin tablet you probably know what I mean. I am not brave enough to chew one of these so I can hardly comment on the taste, but the smell? Their smell is reminiscent of the taste of other multivitamins, with a hint of cinnamon. They are also coated a very dark shade of green (I guess that's the spirulina) that I personally found rather unappetizing, especially together with the smell. You might refrain from taking a big whiff. This is very minor in my opinion, but again it might be a consideration if you're thinking of buying these for children.

That should just about cover it. This was rather long-winded, but if you, like me, had never heard of this product before, hopefully this review will help you decide if it's what you're looking for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I needed!, January 1, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Vegan Multivitamin w/o Iron 90 Tablets (Health and Beauty)
I recently ordered these Vegan Vitamins from Amazon and really like them. I have been looking for a vitamin supplement with extra iron in it, because I am a Pescatarian and do not eat red meat or any other animal meat besides fish. I eventually want to become a total Vegetarian and am working on completely transitioning my diet over to this. In the meantime though, I needed new vitamins and I decided to try these out and I like them so far. They have made my skin look a lot better and my hair is softer. I also was very happy that these vitamins came so fast. Great buy if you are looking for a good multivitamin that fits into your nutritional needs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good multi, if misleading, April 11, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

These vitamins are overall a good buy (I will most likely stick with them), but I find it sad that the company is marketing the myth of B-12 deficiency - which is actually extremely rare in vegetarians and vegans.
