I got this book from my library to check out the recipes it offers. I have to say, I was less than impressed - I'm glad I didn't buy a copy. If you want to reverse diabetes, I highly recommend Eat to Live by Dr. Joel Fuhrman or Reversing Diabetes by Dr Neil Barnard. Both of these doctors recommend vegan eating plans to cure what ails you. I have been carefully following the plan laid out by Dr Fuhrman and in 3 months I brought my A1c from 12.2 down to 6.1, WITHOUT ANY MEDICATIONS. The neuropathy in my big toe is gone. I have never felt better.

i gave this book 2 stars because there is some attempt to provide recipes that are for diabetics... however, there are a lot of recipes that are very high in carb count... for example...the very first recipe on pg 18, corny french toast, is 69 grams of carbs... pg 26, corn potato chowder is 53 carbs... pg 28 pancakes 76 carbs... pg 38 pasta is 68 carbs... anyway, you get the point that this book is loaded with hi carb recipes. i would not recommend this book...you can get just as good recipes by doing a google on the subject... i feel the term "for people with diabetes" on the title is very misleading...

If your going to review a book; at least read the title first "Vegan Menu for Diabetes" hello "menu" is the key word. This book does exactly as promised, it is a book for Vegan diabetic recipees.
If you want information on the entire subject of Diabetes get a book like "diabetes for dummies". Next time please don't give negative or weak reviews because you are confused; it's a disservice to other customers and the authors!! This is the only book of its kind for Vegans who also must manage diabetes and it is well-written! This site also tells you to review the product itself not post idle opinions.

Almost every item in the book will set off your blood suger- All sort of high carb items from crackers to oatmeal, bananas and rice and pasta. This book was a joke and a waste of money.

Not what I thought it was,

This is probably my own error, more than a flaw with the book. I thought it would have more information in it about why certain types of foods were better or worse for diabetes and blood sugar issues. Instead, it said what food was good and bad with very little explanation of why.
I'm not good at taking someone's word for something, especially with so many varying views of health issues out there. I like to know why someone is saying something, so that I can be my own judge of it. The focus of this book is 99% on the recipes. Not what I wanted, but not bad. |
