3.0 out of 5 stars They make the songs their own
You need to know that this is a CD full of cover versions of hits from Thin Lizzy to The Go-Gos. Interesting song selection, I wonder if the band hand picked any of these songs though. Hats off to Alexis and company for not rehashing the same song but changing the chords, melody line, etc. to where their version has nothing to do with the original version and ends up...

Being a hard core Everclear fan I bought this without thought. When I first listened to it I was pretty surprised. It wasn't at all what I expected from an Everclear album. I soon realized that it was a cover album so I changed my expectations and continued to listen. I loved some of the songs right off the bat but it took me a little time to really warm to the entire album. While I definitely wouldn't want all of their future work to be like this I still found the album is be upbeat and fun. I love the live bits, it's like being at one of their concerts again. Don't expect this to be like their regular work but listen anyway, you might end up enjoying it. This definitely isn't my favorite Everclear album nor is it their best work but as far as cover albums go it is certainly 5 star worthy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Alright by me, April 28, 2008
This review is from: The Vegas Years (Audio CD)
Been listening to this a lot. Cool covers and it rocks! "Kicks," "The Boys Are Back in Town," and "Our Lips Are Sealed" jump out at me. I think most people who claim to be Everclear fans will like this, and you don't even have to be a die-hard fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun to have Everclear back, May 9, 2008

While this sort of album might not get a ton of respect from hardcore fans, I find this new release a ton of fun. I enjoyed most all the songs, particularly Pocahontas, Boys are Back In Town, and Speed Racer. Hopefully this will lead to another studio album with new material. Good Fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 stars for a great cover album!, December 15, 2011
This review is from: The Vegas Years (Audio CD)
Listen, these are cover tracks. So take it for what it's worth. These covers are for the most part, amazing. Who would've thought that a band full of dudes could pull of the Go-Go's classic "Our Lips Are Sealed?" I almost like this version more than the original itself. Another great one is "American Girl". I love Tom Petty, but I might enjoy this cover even more than his original, which is one of my favorite Petty tracks. I'm not going to review every track, but these are all either good to great. And these tracks are all recorded from the older Everclear, the one we love most. So, not only are we listening to some great songs, but even better, they're sang by Art and the ol' gang. And for those of us who have seen Everclear in person in the past few years, can appreciate the final track, a live version of Jenny. You almost feel like you're back at the show rocking out.

This might be the last good album we ever get from Everclear, so buy it and cherish it!

2.0 out of 5 stars Everclear, go back to your roots., March 6, 2011

I have not been happy with the group/ Art, ever since the original members left. The "new" Everclear should change it's name and stop tarnishing the original's success. This is not a good album nor are the ones that followed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Completely lacking in originality, February 2, 2010
Everclear takes a number of popular songs and "makes them theirs". What this really means is they release an album of covers, remade to sound like every Everclear song that's been put out in the past 10-15 years. A band can get by on one or two covers every once in a while, but really, this album only shows how fall they've fallen. Save yourself the trouble and just go to any bar on a Friday night to hear a bunch of pretty good rock songs "interpreted" into completely flavorless rock.

You need to know that this is a CD full of cover versions of hits from Thin Lizzy to The Go-Gos. Interesting song selection, I wonder if the band hand picked any of these songs though. Hats off to Alexis and company for not rehashing the same song but changing the chords, melody line, etc. to where their version has nothing to do with the original version and ends up being Everclear songs. On some songs it works, others it just a remake or cover version in tht title of the song only. Take "The Boys Are Back in Town" for example. The classic guitar riff of the original is nowhere to be found until the chorus. Same for many of these versions. Credit goes to the band for making each song their own. The songs are listenable and if you are not familiar with original, you may like the songs here. You must be an Everclear fan to like this album though.

I love most of Everclear's music but I was disappointed when this album arrived and I discovered it was a cover album rather than original music (I ordered it without reading the description of it because I am an Everclear fan). The best song on here and arguably better than the Thin Lizzy version (Boys are Back in Town) was released on the Detroit Rock City Soundtrack several years ago so I've been rocking to it for a while now. Hopefully Everclear is working on some new studio stuff. I miss the late 80's when new quality rock music was coming out frequently from a wide variety of bands. Long live the two (lead and rhythm) electric guitar, one bass, one drummer, and a singer form of music.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Very Good, April 17, 2008
By
This review is from: The Vegas Years (Audio CD)
I am a die-hard Everclear fan and have been since the Sparkle and Fade days. I love every single album Everclear has released with their last one being not all up to standards. This album of cover songs is atrocious. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because I can't bring myself to give an Everclear album 1 star. The Boys are Back in Town and Brown Eyed Girl are excellent cover songs that are available elsewhere. The rest of the songs on here are not even worthy of downloading. They are very cheesy and even a bit boring. I think it's time Art gets the orignal band back together.

This album sounds a lot like Everclear playing a wedding. I'm not really a fan of covers and this is no exception.

Nothing very original or anything like that.

Saw Everclear on their first stop of the tour for this album and they certainly rocked hard, but their originals are MUCH better.
