A wealth of wonderful recipes,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Vegetarian Cooking For Dummies (Paperback)
Vegetarian Cooking For Dummies is the ideal "starter" book for anyone wishing to convert to a vegetarian culinary lifestyle. Fun and easy, the recipes are enhanced with superb color photographs and instructions that are simple, straightforward, and consistently reliable. In addition to a wealth of wonderful recipes, the novice vegetarian is also treated to a "reader friendly" guide to vegetarian basics, a description of the vegetarian kitchen, the tools and techniques of vegetarian basics, and some very good "tips, tricks and techniques" for adapting recipes to a vegetarian format. There is an invaluable section offering ten reasons to cook vegetarian, ten practical vegetarian cookbooks, ten helpful websites; and ten online sources of ingredients; as well as a metric conversion guide, an index, and book registration information. From dips, spreads, and soups to salads, entrees, and side dishes, to breads, rolls and desserts, Vegetarian Cooking For Dummies is an enthusiastically recommended reference for vegetarian dining from the ordinary family meal to the extraordinary holiday event menu.

Intimidated of the word quinoa? Maybe tofu? Don't be! As a beginner vegetarian (or one who's been living on frozen veggie burgers for a while like me...) this is an absolutely wonderful book to help you learn what some of the foods you had maybe heard about but were to scared to try are like -- and in an easy to understand format. I love this book! :)

This book gives a basic detail of where to start, some simple recipes and lots of really helpful tips. I really liked it and have moved on to other books with more complex recipes and that's just what I expected from this book.

I find this book is packed with all the information I hoped it would have. It seems the "for Dummies" books always are a great choice for the basic needs looked for "plus" it is practical and useful information that wont let you down. This book has been exactly what I needed to help me along with the conscious change I have made to become a vegetarian. I am always grateful to a book that is complete, and fun. Tons of value in this book.I certainly recommend it to anyone on this path.

Not being much of a cook (being a picky eater used to "cooking" for one person, me)a rudimentary primer was exactly what I was looking for. This focused as I thought it would and should, on the basics of mastering veggie cooking point five oh one if that exists.
Learning more about soy products, different non dairy "milks" (though previously an occasional fan of meat substitutes and tofu, I only knew a little about soy, rice, almond, hemp, and coconut drinks due to many of them becoming available at supermarkets locally) Info about tofu, seitan, bean flakes etc and the LONG list of online retailers (both for research and actual product ordering capabilities) was a completely incalculable value in and of itself. The added recipes also were a bonus since it wasn't really billed as a cook book. Gave me the courage to finally get into the veggie DIY cooking part of my ongoing lifestyle change beyond nuking a BOCA burger and sauteeing some portabellas and red peppers in olive oil. Seller's description of condition was modest, it was in GOOD AS NEW condition, no bending warping etc.

The Title Says It All,
By A.J. "aprilis7211" (Detroit, MI United States) - See all my reviews

I bought this book hoping to learn how to make better home-cooked vegetarian meals. While I thought it was a nice, informative introduction to vegetarian cooking for those new to vegetarianism, as a long-time lacto-ovo vegetarian who wants to improve her cooking skills, I didn't find it very helpful. In my opinion, too much time was spent discussing things about vegetarianism that I already knew about (e.g., vegetarian philosophy, etc.) and not enough time spent on cooking techniques and recipes. So, I recommend this book only to people new to vegetarianism (guess that'll teach me not to pay more attention to book titles!). Culinary challenged, long-time vegetarians such as myself might be better off looking elsewhere.

you could have been a bit more creative in stead of putting only the same type in each box. maybe design some other looking candy. other than that, it was packaged well and arrived in a good amount of time. thanks.
