Larry the Cucumber has slept in late. But that's all right because the plucky Jr. Asparagus is at the ready to narrate the story of the wall of Jericho with Bob the Tomato. This half-hour computer-animated video from the VeggieTale folk is another bouncy retelling of a traditional Bible story. We follow Josh (alas, Larry appears!), who has taken over for Moses leading the Israelites to the Promised Land. In their way is the city of Jericho, full of nasty French peas armed with purple slushies to lob below. Focusing on being obedient to God's wishes, this video has more Christian gist than most and is a bit long (the tales are better when they're shorter), but for any fan, it's a keeper. There are plenty of hip songs, and Larry puts his own slant on receiving word from a messenger of God. The Silly Song with Larry segment is one of the silliest: "The Song of the Cebú." --Doug Thomas

5.0 out of 5 stars Very cleverly written and funny. August 31, 1999
Format:VHS Tape
I think that "Josh and the Big Wall" is the funniest retelling of the Isrealites and their defeat of Jericho. While entertaining kids, it inconspicuously teaches them about obeying God and their parents. "Veggie Tales" are the funnest way to learn about God and virtues. A wonderful video, cleverly written, and funny. And the Silly Songs with Larry segment is very entertaining, too! The song about a boy and his three "cebus" (say-boo)is imossible to not like. The tune, the words, and the story is irresistable! A #1 in kid's videos. Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber present the idea of obedience in a positive way. They always talk about improving and obeying so kids won't feel bad about not having obeyed in the past. A GREAT VIDEO.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very, very funny telling of the Jericho story. May 2, 2000
Format:VHS Tape
It's not what you expect and that is what makes this video so effective. The VeggieTales team has another hit on their hands with this clever re-telling of the story of Joshua and the wall of Jericho.
Any "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" fan will particularly enjoy the casting of the French peas atop the wall of Jericho.
This is a superb Christian video for both children and adult children alike. Larry's silly "Cebu" song will stick in your head like glue.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent teaching on Obedience....also lots of fun. October 18, 1999
By A Customer
Format:VHS Tape
I have a 23-month old son who simply enjoys the VeggieTales videos and we have collected all except one so far. Josh and the Big Wall is one of my personal favorites. It clearly shows how our disobedience can lead to disappointments, but if we follow God's ordained plans for our lives, the rewards are total and complete. It is great learning experience for "children" of all ages; Jean-Claude & Phillipe (the French Peas) are just delightful and Larry's Silly Song - Song of the Cebu - will have you singing even at the office. Marvelous job BIG IDEA productions.

4.0 out of 5 stars And Yes, Older Kids Love It Too! March 1, 2000
By A Customer
Format:VHS Tape
I'm 12 years old and in 6th grade. The other day, my religion teacher brought in this Veggie Tales video for us to watch. I must say, I loved it. It was funny and cute but full of teaching, too, on how we should always do what God says, even if it seems crazy at the time. My class loved it so much that we all coaxed my teacher into watching it again the next day. And, no one could get that 'Silly Songs with Larry' song out of their head, either. I highly recommend it. 4.0 out of 5 stars A fun story! October 23, 2002
Format:VHS Tape
VeggieTales combines solid moral values with very entertaining stories and characters. The story-line captivates my 2-year old and 5-year old, they love the music, and they laugh and giggle at some of the antics. I highly recommend these tapes. (Even in homes that don't consider themselves "religious", something that can help you provide a good moral compass for your children shouldn't be discounted out of hand.) I love the way that Josh stands up to the "peas" on the walls of Jericho, and takes the taunting and teasing from them, and from the members of his group. It's a very entertaining way of impressing upon children the importance of doing what you are told, even when it seems rather silly!

5.0 out of 5 stars Monty Pythom for kids with a moral. March 29, 2002
Format:VHS Tape
The french guys at the top of the wall were too much! I felt like I was watching a cartoon version of Monty Python's Holy Grail - only this one had a purpose, a story, and a great moral. My son is transfixed with this video each time we play it. He asks for it above all others. I am truly shocked as he used to ask for full-feature Disney movies. Now, he begs for VeggieTales. Some of the humor makes me laugh out loud, too. When the squash (?) looks up at the french peas and says, "We're not crazy, you know. Our God told us to do it," I just fall out! And my sons laughs hysterically each time they sing "Going to the Promised Land" and the veggie pops up saying, "sounds sticky!"

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't taunt this! February 21, 2003
Format:VHS Tape
OH MY GOSH. i have always loved these videos... within my college-aged friend base, we have _all_ the shows. ... All i can think of when i see the peas on the wall is that the creators have watched WAY too much monty python. These guys must have so much fun!
There is no way that these films are just for kids. There are so many little things that children would never pick up on. Believe me, these films are a must for your collection. No only will they have you rolling, but they teach amazing values as well.
On a final note, check out Dave and the Giant Pickle some time: about the sheep? "They tip over..." BAAAAAAAaaa!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love love love - as usual. April 25, 2010
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
My kids (5 and 2) love this film. It is standard "Veggie Tales"...fun to watch (for both kids and adults) and offers a great message - in this case, it is always better to follow God's will and instructions than do your own thing. Love it! (As usual!) Finally, the silly song is as entertaining as always. We'd like to see a compilation of the silly songs!
