2.0 out of 5 stars Re-hash of old stuff
How many times can you re-mix and sell old stuff. If you have many of the other titles on VHS, your kids may be bored with this countdown. Supposedly a top ten list, it includes silly songs that may not be your favorites and excludes some that you are sure should be on there. I would skip this one.

This review is from: VeggieTales - The Ultimate Silly Song Countdown [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Ever wondered which silly song from the Veggie Tales videos is the silliest? Well, you are just about to find out! Hosted by the Pirates Who Don't Do Anything (aka Larry the cucumber, Pa Grape, and Mr. Lunt), "The Ultimate Silly Song Countdown" is, well... just what is says. The countdown to which song is the silliest of all! After collecting votes from Veggie Tales fans, you'll be able to know the results. Is it "The Cheeseburger Song"? "I Love My Lips"? "The Hairbrush Song"? Find out as you watch this hilariously fun 43 minutes program!

For a while I've been thinking that the Veggie Tales are only for younger kids and especially not for teenagers. But after getting a few tapes from my friends and watching them, I realized I was totally wrong! I just really LOVE the videos and I've been enjoying watching them with my parents! And probably my most favorite Veggie Tale is "The Ultimate Silly Song Countdown". The songs are just so silly that my parents and I were just laughing, laughing, and laughing! In our opinions though, are favorites are "Endangered Love" and "I Love My Lips". The "Water Buffalo Song" is pretty fun, too. And it's not just the songs which are great, whenever the countdown machine malfunctions, you get to watch the Pirates Who Don't Do Anything, who are also extremely silly. So if you like Veggie Tales, heard of it, or even if you've never even heard of it, I highly recommend you watch this tape! (And also, don't miss the dance mixes of the silly songs at the very end.)

The other Veggie Tale videos are also very enjoyable with great Christian values, each teaching a very valuable lesson. One of my favorites is "King George and the Ducky", which teaches about selfishness.

4.0 out of 5 stars And what is YOUR favorite Veggie Tales' Silly Song??, September 15, 2001

This review is from: VeggieTales - The Ultimate Silly Song Countdown [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This video is a must-have for Silly Song Fans everywhere.

Hosted by "The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything", this is a countdown show from the #10 Silly Song to the #1 favorite Silly Song of all time. The votes (taken on the Veggie Tales website) have been tabulated by the "Astonishing Contraption of Silliness." Occasionally, there is a glitch in the machine, which causes a very mixed-up title, but the Silly Songs on this video will no doubt be YOUR favorites from the Veggie Tales series.

You will get to see 10 full-length Silly Songs. This video is 43 minutes long, about 13 minutes longer than most Veggie Tales videos. If you have children who will want to watch the same songs over and over, obviously the DVD would be a better choice for you!

The only reason I gave this 4 stars and not 5 is that there isn't any really new material. They do have an entertaining format in how they announce the next song, but the songs are all ones that Veggie Tales fans have heard before.

Be watching for Veggie Tales' full-length movie, "Jonah" to appear in theaters in 2002!

Please check out my reviews of Christian videos, books, and music!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ultimate silliness. . ., November 9, 2001
This review is from: VeggieTales - The Ultimate Silly Song Countdown [VHS] (VHS Tape)
. . .provided by "The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything"!

This video is a "must-have" for all fans of Bob the Tomato, Larry the Cucumber and all the rest of your salad-drawer favorites! What the producers of "Veggie-Tales" have done in this video is to take the funniest of the "Silly Songs" from the last umpteen videos and present them in a "Top 10 Countdown" format, familiar to anyone who has ever listened to the radio or watched music television.

In between the various songs, the viewer is treated to hysterical commentary by "The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything" as the tabulation machine routinely malfunctions. Not to be missed is Larry the Cucumber and Mr. Lunt as they rap to a Chinese restaurant menu. Finally, demonstrating once again that cartoons are presented on many levels, the countdown concludes with a "voting controversy" when Pa Grape "discovers" a hitherto unknown bag of "uncounted votes". Certainly a humorous spoof on the 2000 elections!

This collection of songs from the "Veggie-Tales" series is highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Collection of Silliness, February 5, 2002
By
Mark Baker (Santa Clarita, CA United States) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
Silly Songs with Larry is a fan favorite segment from the Veggie Tales series. Here's a collection of all 10 Silly Song videos, in order of popularity. And there are some great songs here. Everything from the original, "The Water Buffalo Song," to "The Yodeling Veterinarian of the Alps" (my favorite) and the most recent, "Larry's High Silk Hat." Hosted by the "Pirates Who Don't Do Anything," it's a fun collection to sit back and enjoy.

This is a best of video. As such, there is little new material. But for those who want all the silly songs in one place, this is a great way to do it. The DVD contains some fun features, such as interviews with creators Mike and Phil and the Moo Shoo Karaoke. Also hidden as an Easter Egg are: the only "missing" silly song, "O Santa," "Lost Puppies" from the Esther video, and "The Hairbrush Song" in Japanese.

Long time fans might be disappointed with the lack of new material here, but I'm glad to have this DVD in my collection. It's the perfect thing to watch when you need a grin.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally BigIdea is using the DVD format., October 1, 2001
By
Ryan A Gano (Everett, WA USA) - See all my reviews
We have each of the VeggieTales movies and are so happy that BigIdea is starting to use the DVD format. The difference between the (well used) videos and the DVD picture is unbelievable. There is a new (short) song on this video but most of it is old material. Even if you have the other videos get this on DVD to be able to see the songs as they were meant to be seen.

5.0 out of 5 stars VeggieTales -- Preachy???, December 22, 2001
By
I am a woman in my 20's, and used to enjoy renting the VeggieTales videos to watch with my roommate when I was living in Boston. We always got a huge kick out of the witty humor of these videos. Now that the silly songs are gathered together on one DVD, it is a nice opportunity to own these funny highlights. There are so many catchy songs that will stick in your head (which you may, or may not want!). For people who already own the videos, this might be one to rent or borrow rather than buy, as others have already pointed out there is not much that is new on the DVD.

To access the Easter Eggs, go to the chapter selection screen. Highlight one of the chapter segments at the bottom (5-8, 9-12) push the number 9 on your remote, and hit enter. There is a different hidden clip for each chapter selection screen. Seeing the Japanese version of "Hairbrush" was amusing!

Finally, in answer to the reviewer who complained that the series is too "preachy"-- are you serious? This is, after all, a Judeo-Christian series. That is the point of the videos. The creators have a right to make a show based on religious and moral views if they so wish. I have not seen every episode, but many of the plot-lines do not even have to do with the Bible. One teaches that a small lie can quickly grow into a big one. Another teaches that all the possessions in the world cannot make a person truly happy. At the very end of the show, one Bible verse is quoted that backs up the message of the episode. If you consider that "preachy," then this must be a difficult world for you to live in. I don't mean to sound rude, but I feel this is an excellent program mainly because of its lack of "ramming God down a person's throat" and I was surprised to hear someone make it sound like it was that kind of show. A handful of the episodes are based on well-known Old Testament stories, and that is as religious as the show gets.

This DVD is certain to entertain and delight folks of all ages with its good, clean fun -- buy it and share it!

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT SONGS AND A LESSON IN NOT ALWAYS WINNING, September 25, 2002
By
GMDEMPSEY (CERESCO, MI USA) - See all my reviews
It's hard not to like every veggie tale song. This collection is nice because it is the very best songs and a story line of three characters that carry you from one song to the next. During the countdown we learn a lesson in being happy with what you get (in this case 2nd place) rather than trying to cheat to win first place.

5.0 out of 5 stars Entertainment for the young and old!, November 5, 2004
The first time I watched this, I laughed so hard-- even better, my then five-month-old son giggled his little heart out when "Endangered Love" started! That song happens to be my favorite from this collection and I feel that it should have been #1 instead of #10, but I won't get into that. All in all, the whole DVD is entertaining although I do tend to skip past the initial bit about the Pirates Who Don't Do Anything. This DVD has proven to be a surefire way to cheer up my baby (now one and a half!) and I recommend it to anyone with small children or anyone who can appreciate a good Silly Song! My family's favorite songs: Endangered Love, His Cheeseburger, and Love My Lips.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for younger kids who like music, March 30, 2002
By A Customer
This DVD doesn't contain any news songs really but it is nice to have just the best silly songs all together in one place. This is esp. good for my 15 month old who loves the music but is too young to understand the lessons that the other videos are trying to teach.

5.0 out of 5 stars Do the Moo Shoo!, March 20, 2002
What is the most sily sillysong?

This DVD shows them in the order voted on a while back. All 10 from the realeases upto Lyle that had a silly song are included. The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything *Pa, Larry, Lunt* are the hosts, counting down the sillyness. "Larry's High Silk Hat", "Watter Buffalo" "Song of the Cebu *my favorite*", "Dance of the Cucumber", Endangered Love", "Love My Lips", "Hairbbrush", "Pirates", and "Yodeling Vetrinarian of the Alps" are the contenders. Though this seems straightfoward, get ready for: A New Silly Song, Problems in the Countdown, Voter Fraud, a tearful confession, forgivness, and maybe even a remix!

The DVD features deleted footage, intervviews with Mike,Phil, and Kurt, and a kareoke of the new song! Easter eggs are featured on the chapter selection screens. Just keeppressing the numbers... You get: "Oh Santa!" from the Christmas show, the full version of Ester's "Lost Puppies", voting results, and the #1 song in Japanese!

This new release is a great example of general sillyness and fun. Be sure to add this to your collection. *aliong with other veggie products*
