Addictive!,

This review is from: VeggieTales - Very Silly Songs! [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Warning! This video is addictive. The songs presented here are from a variety of the Veggie Tales videos. It also includes a special song, The Pirates who don't do anything, that cannot be found anywhere else. The songs are catchy but not irritating. The humor is on many different levels. A two year old and their parents would both find this entertaining at the same time. The songs are musically well written and interesting. The majority of the songs are from the Silly Songs with Larry segment. While not necessarily preaching a Christian message, through their clean and silly fun, they show that being Christian isn't boring. Wonderful introduction to the Veggie Tales series. Great for younger ones who might not be ready to follow a half hour long story.

My mom showed me these videos when I was home on break from school, and I wasn't really expecting to like them since I have never seen any comtemporary Christian videos for kids that weren't hideously cheesy. However, Larry and Bob are another story. This cartoon series has the rare ability to entertain all ages; in fact, there are some bits of humor that I doubt an 8-year-old would get ("Definitely time for Wapner"). So when I got back to school and found the Silly Songs video, I must admit I bought it... and watched it... and made all my roommates watch it too. And now scarcely a day goes by when I don't find myself singing "Miren al pepino..." under my breath.

I teach both in a Catholic school and Sunday school, so I am constantly on the lookout for anything that is educational, entertaining, and appealing to as many age groups as possible. When I first saw Veggie Tales, I laughed so hard I cried! My students have asked for them again and again, and I bought a set of tapes for my four children (aged 5-12). They are frequently watched (even when the kids aren't home)! My favorite is The Hairbrush Song! This particular tape is the newest to our collection, and will soon be worn out, too!

I love "Silly Songs with Larry" and bought this tape hoping for a compilation of those songs. While it did have some of the songs from "Silly Songs", it also had many of the songs from the main part of the Christian video show "Veggie Tales" itself. I don't have any objections per se to religious songs from the show: it is, after all, a religious series, and most of the episodes are nice little moral messages. However, this what not what I was hoping to get. In addition, the songs that aren't from the "Silly Songs" segment aren't quite as silly, and some of them (when taken out of the context of the story in which they appeared) may be a little hard to follow. If you watch the Veggie Tales series and want a collection of sing-along songs from that show, this is a great video. If you are specifically looking for just the silly songs, however, the video you want to get is "VeggieTales - The Ultimate Silly Song Countdown".

I don't consider myself very much of a Christian. In fact, I probably fall more into the "Heathen" category more than anything else. That didn't stop me from really, REALLY enjoying this video. The songs are hilarious and infectious (there is no way you can keep "The Hairbrush Song" out of your head). The humor is clever, silly, and just a bit surreal (an animated cucumber discussing buying property for no money down was something I never expected to see in my lifetime), and, overall, is on the level of Warner Brothers' sillier shows like Freakazoid! and Animaniacs. As far as the Christian themes go, a few songs, like "God is Bigger Than the Boogie Man" were a tad preachier than others, but even those are funny and entertaining. Overall, this tape is one of the most enjoyable examples of animation I've seen in a long time. I highly recommend it!!

My kids, ages 5, 10, and 18, all love the Veggie Tales movies! The tunes are so catchy, you find yourself humming them! And the moral messages these videos give are great - we need more family entertainment like this!

I must admit I thought that vegetables dancing on the tv screen would be a bit too silly for me, but when I saw this video with my children I was hooked also. The songs teach a moral lesson as well as entertains. From making the right choice when faced with a tough decision to knowing God is there with you when you are scared. Some songs are just plain entertaining! Parents will find themselves singing along. Be careful it's contagious! Enjoy!

Great Intro to Veggie Tales,

We received the two silly songs videos (this one and the second one) for my daughter's 1st birthday. I was hesitant at first, but "Bob" has quickly become a must-have in our household. The silly songs videos are great 1st videos in the Veggie Tales series, particularly for young kids. The reason is that all the songs are from the other stories in all the other videos. So if your kids learn these songs, they will be like the other videos since they already know most of the songs. Plus, my 15 month old doesn't sit still for the story-based videos, but absolutely loves these song-based ones. AND as everyone else said - they are even entertaining for adults! I seriously think we're going to need a 12-step program to get ourselves off of "Bob"... :-) But that's not a bad thing, given the excellent morals taught in these videos. I love that everything isn't "politically correct" like in some Saturday morning cartoons. People (and veggies) aren't perfect - they do make mistakes, but these videos teach that God forgives you, while also explaining why you shouldn't do those things (like lying, etc.) I highly recommend the Veggie Tales videos, and especially the sing-a-longs as starters.

Can you imagine singing songs that vegetables sing?,

I know. I didn't think it was possible either, but after watching this video a time or two, you too will be singing these silly songs from the Veggie Tales videos. Some of these songs contain Christian messages, others are just plain silly. Some are from the other VeggieTales videos; one of them is new (The Pirates Who Won't Do Anything). This first of the song videos from VeggieTales combines the best of the music from all of their early videos and is great fun.

When you're tired of Baby Mozart...,

I was getting REALLY tired of the Baby Mozart video, so we purchased this video for my 1 year old daughter. She pays attention through the whole video, and she claps and bounces to the rhythm of the music. While she probably doesn't understand the themes yet, she certainly enjoys the animation and music. We plan to use it for awhile, then bring it out again when she's older and can understand the moral lessons.
