A must-read for engineers developing car navigation systems, February 17, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Vehicle Location and Navigation Systems (Artech House Its Series) (Hardcover)
It is a very well-written book covering in-depth all the related topics in vehicle navigation, a timely primer for people new to the subject and a comprehensive reference for researchers/engineers working in this field. I like its balanced treatment of fudamental theory and practical techniques. The book discusses many state-of-the-art development in the current car navigation systems such as the 3-D birdeye view of the maps, multi-sensor fusion for map matching, dynamic routing with real-time traffic info, and the wireless technology that keeps driver connected. In addition, the book also discusses a variety of techniques to locate the mobile phone caller (A FCC mandatory requirement for wireless communications services). The references to related web sites also prove to be very useful.
