Review
When Hugh of Castlerock rescues a woman from drowning in the ocean, his intentions are to have someone escort her to her destination or return her to her home. But the Irish beauty will only tell him her name-Fionna. She is traveling alone and insists on reaching her destination alone. Being a gentleman, Hugh cannot allow her to endanger her life so he does the only thing he can. He locks her up. Fionna has her own reasons for keeping secrets from the man known as Bold Hugh. Their attraction to each other is strong and immediate-- perhaps being kept at Castlerock for a time is not so bad. Hugh appeals to her love of reading and music with his books and a harp. He seems more civilized than most Englishmen but Fionna knows she cannot stay at Castlerock. When Hugh is called to his father's bedside in Glastonbury, he insists that Fionna accompany him. She has become a part of his life-- and as they unravel a sinister mystery surrounding King John, she becomes part of his heart. Veil of Passion is an entertaining medieval romance with a hint of mysticism and magic. Maura Seger has done a wonderful job of creating a powerful love story between Hugh and Fionna.
